PISQ – The Deception

bisoy
By bisoy

As a parent my first requirement in enrolling my children to a certain school is the quality of education and confidence to the school faculty. All of the above fade away when PISQ suddenly halt the classes of NKP (nursery, kinder & prep) and pronounced that the school campus will be move to another place outside of Doha. There was no clear justification from the school administration of the sudden changes. As a parent with my children entrusted to this school I was upset and disappointed to the brouhaha that PISQ brought to us. For 2 weeks now, our children are out of school and there is no assurance that the problem will be resolve at the soonest. If the school administration informs us from the start that they are going to move the campus at the middle of school year, I would not have enrolled my children to this school. Now my children suffer a lot from the incompetence of PISQ.

I passed by PISQ and dropped for a few minutes to confirm some issues about PISQ. These were some info I got:

1. The school is not an international school; it is only in name but in reality it is like an ordinary Phil. school offering the Phil. curriculum...deception no. 1.

2. The school management is not under the principal's control; it is under the control and whims of Edgardo Basilio and Villa Inguillo. It is not professionally managed...deception no. 2.The school principal is a rubber stamp just to comply with education requirement.

3. The school is making money, but the services (canteen,

library, toilet, water, clinic)are poor...deception no. 3.

4. The clinic is manned by a questionable nurse according to source, suspected of bearing a fake license and passport....deception no. 4.

5. The canteen is dirty and sanitation is questionable. Deception no. 5.

6. The canteen is crowded, drinking water in bottles are exposed to unsanitary environment. The canteen is only after money too just like Dosari...deception no. 6.

7. Food items in the canteen are not nutritious. They are selling soda and junk foods!...deception no. 7.

8. Worst deception: the increase in tuition fee is allegedly for teacher's salary. The truth is Dosari is salivating for more money for his pocket. Poor teachers!

As I browsed posted comments about PISQ and doing some indirect queries to some Filipinos in Qatar and talking to my friend teaching at PISQ...it appeared that the school is fine. It is now making money. BUT the concerns of the faculty is the treatment of the school management about the faculty: cramped accommodation: 5 or 6 teachers are squeezed in a room suited for 2 only; lack of toilet and lavatory and shower area; the owner Dosari is only after the money he can take from the school. No salary increase even if the school is making money.

If PISQ will fail and closes its operation, finger can be pointed to Dosari, Edgardo Basilio and Villa Inguillo: the anti-Filipino trio and anti-school development. What they are doing are propaganda to make PISQ look good, but in reality a money-making business of Dosari.

for me, it's more on saan ako mas comfortable at convenient. Practically, mas accessible ang location ng PSD. Malapit sya sa bahay namin at sa trabaho ko. When it comes to quality of education, pasado naman sya for me.

Di naman kailangan ang magkasiraan or maglabasan ng baho ang PSD at PISQ. Mas maganda siguro kung i-support na lang natin sila for the good of our filipino community. At i-respeto na lang natin ang desisyon ng bawat isa sa atin (kung saan man nila gusto mag-aral ang kanilang mga anak) at di na kailangan mag-awayan pa.

PSD announces opening of classes

Posted on Thursday the 09th of July 2009

The long wait is finally over!

PSDians from the Grades 4 till Third year high school can now start the school year as Philippine School Doha welcomes them to the school year 2009-2010 on July 12, Sunday.

This announcement was made immediately after the approval of the Civil Defense and other concerned ministries that ensure the health and safety of students and school personnel. The students will be housed in the newly-built classrooms of the school.

It can be recalled that the NKP ( Nursery, Kindergarten, and Preparatory), Grades 1-3, and the Fourth Year high school students started their classes last July 21, of the current school year. Parents are advised through the telephone brigade done by teachers to disseminate information about this opening.

For more details, parents and students should always check the latest news on the school's official website.

37 MORE ROOMS GET AUTHORITIES’ NOD PSD set to go full throttle from tomorrow

AILYN AGONIA

DOHA After a long wait, the Philippine School of Doha (PSD) finally announced the opening of its classes from Grade 4 to Third Year High School on Sunday.

The decision was made after final inspection conducted by the Qatari authorities on Thursday clearing the PSD building on safety and health regulation counts.

Talking to Qatar Tribune on Friday, PSD Principal Alex Costa said that the entire PSD faculty was glad that finally they would be able to accommodate the rest of their students on Sunday after receiving approval from the Civil Defence, Doha Municipality and other ministries that their other classrooms were in compliance with the building regulation of the government.

Only PSD students from Nursery to Preparatory, Grades 1 to 3 and Fourth Year High School were allowed to begin their new school earlier this year on June 22 as they were yet to meet all the requirements of the government time for about 37 classrooms to accommodate the other students.

The school was specifically made to comply with specific requirements such as having water sprinklers and an evacuation plan.

“The PSD faculty is well prepared to welcome the rest of our students on Sunday.

I am so glad that this issue is finally over.

After passing the final inspection of the authorities we immediately announced the news to the parents through telephone brigade and through our website,” Acosta said.

The PSD Principal also expressed his gratitude especially to the parents of PSD students for their understanding and patience despite this concern which for a while caused tensions among them.

“I am so thankful for the parents for continuously entrusting their children to us.

I appreciate the patience, understanding and the loyalty they have shown to the school while we were facing this concern.” Acosta added.

Acosta assured the parents that this delay in the opening of their other classes will not in any ways affect PSD’s academic programme.

He said that the school still had enough time to comply with Philippine Department of Education requirement of at least 200 school days for a school year.

“Our students who started their classes in June including the Fourth Year High School students will be able to complete 209 school days.

That means our graduating class will still graduate in March.

While those who will begin their school year this Sunday will incur a total of 204 school days until the first week of April.

This only means that we are on track.” Acosta remarked

it's a sad note that PSD is struggling to get the permit from the ministry of education of qatar because of their violation of constructing a prohibited portacabin.

last word: school will open on june 14. they did not. again on 21 june. they did not. next july 5, 2009, they did not.

under qatar law the use of portacabin for schools is a no,no. why did psd board insisted on it? with their raffle of qr 400.oo bet to raise 8 million qr for portacabin? the constructed porta seemed to be just a million or less. where in the hell is 8 million qr? is it overpriced and yet illegally constructed because they play around qatar law?

its a pathetic experience.

reap what you sow!

is it true that PSD board borrowed a big sum in the bank? so they will make everything to open the school on time so that their names will not be endangered in the court?

please explain.

lesson: DON'T MESS WITH QATAR!

WHAAAAATTTTTTTTTTT??????????????????? How come that PISQ is the best filipino school in the middle east when in fact the PSD has more students compared to PISQ? As far as i know, PSD has the most competitive and skilled teachers kaya maraming nagpapa enrol don. Anyway, try to see the "root cause" of these issues. Actually wala sa teachers or school ang problema. Ang problema ay nasa iisang tao na walang ginawa kundi hanapan ng mali ang PSD para dumami ang enrolees sa PISQ.

a healthy discussion at all! Let's not put words in our teachers' mouth. I'm sure they are best in their own field of teaching. Whether you're child is in PISQ or PSD, you have to admit to yourself that for Phil.Schools here, you have only 2 choices. No need for comparison my fellow parents, coz you'll never know, teachers from both schools meet & greet whenever they have socials. And I'm sure they never discussed as to who excels in what or where.

Peace & move on!

you are so cute but ignorant about issues hounding PSD and PISQ.

you talk about PISQ as if you are an insider. i am a parent with kids at PISQ since their NKP days... i would say i am.... and i know why i should stick with PISQ.

1. PISQ has a permit issued by DepEd

2. PISQ has very good curriculum, esp. in the HS Dept.

3. PISQ has a very aggressive drive for excellence... and innovative ideas in taking care about children's education ( next time i will elaborate.. for your consumption)

4. Teachers are skillful, with unwavering and caring heart in serving the students... see it for your self.

i would recommend "blue nails" that you initiate a new school... a school that is realllllllllyyyyyy genuine for the Filipino expats...

Details:

tuition fee: QR 1000/year

Books: free

materials: free

uniform: none

teachers: recruited from London or Europe

building: same as CHN or CNA

facilities: all new (not donated)

Quality: name it

want to bet?

Oh my.. my.. blue nails, don't be judgmental. show prima facie proofs and solid evidences about talking LAZY tachers at PISQ. That's very, very, very judgmental act ( a sin of ommission and deed...).

by definition... a jugmental person is a psychologically apathetic being devoured by inherent ill-feeling towards something to justify an inner pain that can be released by name calling, making faces and putting others in bad light.

Why not enrol your kids in other schools... say Indian School, Pakistani, america... if you have the money. if not .. teach your own kids.

I am sure that we are not talking about the teachers hiring process here.. its about school management and even its about the teacher, dont you guys know that some of the teachers at PISQ are becoming lazy? surely they must have been the best of the best but for me being a parent too, the attitude of these teachers towards work is more important than anything.. they should always have atleast a monthly assessment weather they are effective as teachers or not..

with all these, there are only 2 Filipino schools here in Doha.. not much players so we parents literally dont have a choice. as they say Beggars cant be choosy.. We all deserve the best for our kids, if only we'll have other Filipino schools here Im definitely out of PISQ.

To say venality about PISQ without thorough researching the background and real issues is like drinking your own piss without checking the content of the glass.

Be open minded my dear. . . . check with clarity before you post something "pissy". Your premise has no corroborative evidence and you deduced with impunity.

The very hard thing to open in this world is like your mind which is closed.... proverbial learning.

Your friends are misinformed tess_916. The same paranoia that others are talking about.

Why not with your wide open eyes check the school and their programs.

PSD is now cramped without permit from MEHE ( Ministry of Education of Qatar) to use a prohibited porta cabin. So the children will be attending 4 hours of schooling only. Check their website. Classes in double session from 7-11 (4hours only) and another session 12- 4 pm.

So?. . . . same issues about transfer? Yes? same problem? Yes? PSD is closed in Al Sadd, that is final...

I transferred my kids from an Indian School which charges three times what PISQ was asking.

The tuition fee difference between PSD and PISQ was not significant, all in all, around QR 47. Qualitywise, I choose PISQ.

Everytime my older kid arrived I always asked him about the new school. My son said that he's now learning English the proper way and Filipino children were kind to foreign students. There are other foreign students too, Sudanese, Eritreans, Pakistani, Egyptian,Nigerian and a Qatari as well. Its truly International.

classes start at 7:00 and ends at 4:00. My high school son is a 3rd year student and was very fascinated with the school's curriculum. Two electives: math (trigonometry) and applied English (Journalism)with full ICT (Computer) doing Database (MS ACCESS)and Programming.

The issue raised about school transfer? No problem in the high school and Intermediate. The lower levels were properly taken cared of and the lost hours were repaid by a very painless number of hours through an excellent programming.

I salute PISQ for that. The Best Choice. And probably the BEST Middle East School for Filipinos and other nationalities.

Most of the comments delve into emotional issues and (politics?). The Philippine International School-Qatar or PISQ is a well-equipped school with a very good, talented, and experienced, committed faculty coupled with caring attitude and sterling performances in their field.

I am a witness to this as a parent.

Before I enrolled my kids I made comparative research about PSD and PISQ. I don't care who manages the school... but I do care about how the teachers teach my kids. Most of the displeased "parents" have wantonly maligned PISQ but the school shrugged it off. PISQ did not even bother to entertain those lofty, emotional and false-ridden comments. That is because PISQ knows it has the EDGE over PSD when it comes to the teaching staff.

First, the teachers passed through a very rigid selection process: IQ & MA test, academic test, psycho and neuro test,English test, essay test, attitude and interest test, three times interview process, shortlisting, background check, criminal record check, medical check, and demo teaching for the "finalists".

The best of the "best" was then offered an opportunity to be with the PISQ.

Great!

This was their recruitment process through a legitimate and excellent recruitment agency.

How about PSD? Never heard of it.

if it is not here, i'll send them back home. it is very inconvenient in my part, but i have to swallow the bitter pill. the school does not care the fate of their student at all specially the little ones. Its purely business what they are doing here. their answer to our argument was "If we dont like it here... transfer somewhere!!!"

Now we will see kung may mag enroll pa sa kanila next school year.

Note: I tried to post this to fil-expat, but it went here at the main forum, pardon my igonorance please.
