There are several topics on this subject already in QL but none of the threads are clear regarding my requirement.

My son was diagnosed with Dyslexia. He is a slow learner. His problem is not IQ – which is above normal. He has all along studied in Main stream schools till now but as he will be studying in Standard III now, we want him to be in school which can take care of his needs like constant attention from class teacher. Example: He has passed with good result till now but most of the time his assessments have been verbal / oral.

We have checked with TLC (The Learning Center) since November 2007. TLC prefers Local Qatari students and due to class strength being of locals, we have been unable to get his admission there.

Last week we tried for ISL (International School of London). They also rejected.

As for shafalla center – Our son is a mild case student hence this is not the institute we are looking for.

Al Jazeera Academy gave us admission in March 2008. However, school management changed hands soon after and the new management decided to wind up the already existing two (2) divisions for special need students.

Indian Ideal school Special Need division is also not in line what we are looking for. Also, due to the reason Indian education system is too much for a child like my son. We want him to study in Amrican / British curriculum.

Sun Beam is good but they also are not a normal school, this school has main stream only till standard I.

My purpose of this post is what options are left for children like my son in Doha. Is there any other school that we can approach.

I need this information and would be thankful to all in QL. My son is currently studying in India and is with his grand parents. We would love and really want him to be with us.

Waiting for your comments here and/or my fella QLers may contact on [email protected] / GSM# 6877445

Hi PM,

long time.

I have checked with QA in 2007 and they only referred me to TLC.

I really need a real good VASTA to have my kid admitted in either TLC or ISL

Alexa:

Thanks for the info.

I have already mentioned Indian Ideal School in my posting above.

As the other thread (u forwarded) says, this school needs funds and needs them desperately. Its Special Need section is not adecuate. it is just a class room with just one poor teacher in it.

She tries to accomodate and help as much as possible within her limits.

However, there isn't much she can do except have one-on-one interraction with students in har class after / during school hrs.

Hi ! Heard the newly opened Elite International School in Azizia is admitting children who require little extra attention and care. They are following the American curriculum. You can try there.Their objective itself is to establish a school for such special issues. All the Best.

As you are interested in British curriculum, why not try Park House English School... they have kids from all different nationalities and even different sections for smart and less intelligent kids.....All the BEST and take care!

FS: I feel there is difference in Dyslexia and Autism case; one is natural physical disability while other one about confusion created by local environment in a child's mind.

You have mentioned almost all the options available here...and for some reason you cannot put him in any of those mentioned in your post. I am sorry I don’t think you have many options for such cases like Dyslexia or Autism here... Maybe some special education teachers can help him for home study...

I remember one lady posted an ad some time back ...try searching it..good luck!
