In Qatar - any support / assistance for a mentally disabled person?
OK, this is purely a hypothetical question, since I do not know anyone coming to Qatar who has a mental disability, but I am curious - what is life like in this country for someone who is mentally disabled?
Are there special education classes/ facilities? I get the impression that there isn't a great support system in place... does this mean they are basically locked up at home at adult age? Or are they perhaps put in 'institutions'? What about the people who could live *somewhat* independently (albeit with perhaps some supervision/ assistance)... is this even an option for them?
Note: of course I am asking mainly about Qataris; not so much about foreign residents (although I welcome any and all info)... I am just curious to know what happens with these people within Qatari society.
Please don't misunderstand - this is a genuine question.
I understand that hamad hospital has a psychiatry clinic and a separate hospital. I do not know if they have any facility for mentally disabled people.
There is Shafallah Centre for Children with Special Needs run under the direction of Shka. Mozah (The emir's wife)
Funny, I've always wondered the same. You don't see mentally disabled people in the malls, restaurant etc. You don't see them in groups walking along the Corniche.
In Spain normally you see them in groups with their carers on the beach and on the parks. But here, I've never ever seen them.
Does that mean that there are not mentally disabled people in Qatar?
