that the notion of making one's HIV status tantamount to a black-ball offense means that many will continue to engage in risky behaviour (especially after marriage) and not seek testing (nor have to undergo it) and treatment.
As for the local population and their demonising of Rand, nothing surprises me anymore. Democracy allows every wanker to have their say. ;)
The locals believes that the current education reforms is a RAND CORP plot to westernize the country, for the past few years sex education has been introduced gradually into school Curriculum, This has been causing an outrage among local parents.
According to an insider, most of those who get deported are the ones who get checked up upon entry, there are few HIV patients who still resides in Doha. I can't imagine how much they pay for the treatment. of course they're better off in their own countries
The internet forums is in Arabic , it's part of a pan Arab website called "shahama" which means magnanimity. it offers awareness about discrimination against AIDS patients in the Arab World
http://www.chahama.org/
There is also the Qatari students network Which have dedicated a forum to offer logistic support for HIV patients.
Until they are willing to discuss sex, and high risk sexual behaviour, they cannot educate people properly about the transmission of HIV. The local population SHOULD be concerned, regardless of what you say Genesis, you know that many more Qataris will be infected until we take the shame of the illness away. That applies to every country.
in any country, as far as I am aware, someones HIV status is considered private - it can only be disclosed by the person themself or if they give that permission to have it disclosed.
its not that I don't have sympathy for those that contracted the disease through sex or drug taking, but I have less sympathy, since they should have taken the neccessary precaustions or abstained from such habits altogether...
don't get so upset, we are well aware that there are infact Qataris with HIV - this has been discussed before....
Its interesting though that there is a local internet forum associated with this, can you give us the link? It would be interesting to read.
Having a friend of mine back home who was infected with HIV after having a blood tranfusion, I have great sympathy for people who have contracted the virus via ways that are not normally associated with the disease.
Most people when they hear HIV or Aids, automatically assume its due to sex or drugs and forget that this virus can be contracted in other ways too.
Qataris get checked up before marriage, upon applying for a new job , and before joining colleges( whether EDC, QU or the newly established Community College).
The number of Qataris living with HIV has been published annually in the WHO's regional office for the middle east (EMRO) website. Not to mention been published many times in local newspapers. The HIV clinic is not hidden nor are AIDS patients are quarantined.
Anyone working in the health sector knows that each country receives certain amount of HIV medication and of course the priority will be for qataris
Qataris living with HIV have their own local internet forum where they share their stories, offer advice & receive support

Genesis, of course I know there is HIV here. Good they have a support network for those who have the virus.
enough with writing BS.
There is no isolation, Qatari HIV patients privacy is protected. They only visit the HIV clinic to receive the "Cocktails".
