Qatar Living Get Together?

shazbat
By shazbat

There seems to be quite a few people on Qatar Living, that are looking for friends or bored with nowhere to go.

Has anyone ever organised a social get together for all interested people, (singles and couples over 21)?

If anyone was interested, we could pick a night at the weekend and a time and place and all meet up there.

For example, the Intercontinental Paloma bar at 8pm on a Friday. We could all wear something subtle like a ring on our little finger? Smile so we know who is from Qatar Living and socialise with each other.

Anyone interested?

Although I won't be able to make it on the 24th, when I do arrive I hope this can happen again. But lets not all bugger around coming up with strange dances, handshakes and clothing combinations. Just show up and talk! Surely a lot simpler! :)

Follow Tylers lead and appear by the Pool Table.

Although it would be funny if some other guy in a pink shirt beat him to it - Anand for example! :)

Instead of shirts lets all drink the least popular most recognizable beer. Budweiser...to be carried in the left hand while singing hey-diddle-diddle....should make us pretty identifiable....and certifiable

The dry cleaner is a 2 day turn around so you mean I have to wash and iron my own laundry? For the love of god man are we not civilized...must I actually iron my own clothes?

Pink is not too common in Qatar. Just say 7 ish out by the pool table and I am willing to bet we will be the only ones there so early. personally i will be playing pool so my name will be on the chalk board. Just show up and socialize, if you meet someone who is not on QL then that just makes it better.

You should have more than one pink shirt. Be a good boy and do your laundry.

I would be delighted to meet all of you wonderful people. But let's come up with something that will definitely help us identify each other. Lots of people wear pink - well girls at least - without having even heard of QL.

=^..^=

I just wore the pink shirt out last night, you are gonna cause me to do laundry. Now just show up

For those of us sticking around .....How about Sunday 24 Dec at 7 PM at Rydges. Early enough for all to attend and no crowd at that time. And public enough that you can away. No replies just show up and socialize

Sorry for not replying sooner, but I have been rushing around, organising a short notice visit to the UK. I leave on Friday for 2 weeks.

If you are all still interested when I get back, I will try and organise something for mid to late January. Unless some kind soul would like to do it for me while I am away? :)

Happy holidays!

Very good idea. If any organises something and I not working a dreadful evening shift then I'd be interested. It would be cool to meet people who aren't work related for once.

To answer your question

"Has anyone ever organised a social get together for all interested people"

yes I did that about three times before :-) I wrote about it in my blog. We went walking in a park, breakfast in city center and launch in Land Mark.

But we're all girls :-D

Wish you best of luck in your gathering. Just use common sense:

For a first time an open place with many people around is a better choice .. you never know what are the nick names you’re chatting with. If you were a girl, you better not show up alone.. at least get another girl with you…. Ummmm what else? Yess, qatari has nothing to do with the meetings we are arranging.. ie QL is not responsible if anything went wrong.

GOOD LUCK! I’m sure there are soooo mannnyyyy lovely people in here that getting to know them will be such a great thing.

Last night i went to a private farewell at the mezzanine bar in the Rydges its quite cosy and comfortable, perfect for a private function where you want to chat to people. I think we should have it there. (note- its not the Aussie Legends bar)

Will be in Doha around the 8th of Jan.

I thought about the idea myself before it was posted in this thread. That's a brilliant thing that can happen to all us expats. I was worried myself when reading things like it's boring and pretty lonely there.

This can be a periodic thing to do as well not just once, say every 1st thursday of the month or something like that, anyhow I say let's go for it.

It is crowded and that is a problem unless you get there early. But the alternatives are few. Aim to get there by 7.00pm and it should be fine. Someone suggested the Oasis. Well its true that they will let anyone in.. but have you been there?

Hi,

We were at Paloma on a Thursday night not long ago and it was fine not too crowded and friendly folk at the bar. No one seemed to be worried about folks pairing up, many singles having a nice evening out. This place was also enhanced by people from the Asian Games.

I must add for a Tex-Mex place their Margaritas leave something to be desired, but they don't water the bottled beer....

See ya there

I am with you. I would suggest to go to Bar of the Oasis hotel just before Marriot. The place is not so crowded, there is enough space, entry per person is QR 25/- which includes a drink of your choice and singles are also welcome.

Regarding recognising lets make a dress code like a Red Tie for all men and or a red/black stole for women.

What ya say buddy?

Well it seems like there are enough people interested and it looks like the best date is the middle to end of January.

I am fairly new here myself, so I would need some help in organising the get together. The main questions we need to agree on are:-

1. What night is best? I work full time, so i can only make Thursday or Friday night :(

2. Which place is best? I havent been to any clubs or bars in Doha, I have just heard that the Paloma was good. So does anyone know of one that wont be too crowded and will let singles in?

3. How will we recognise everyone? I thought the ring idea was the least intrusive, what ideas does everyone else have?

P.S.

Ahmed44, with your martial arts, you can be the bouncer :)

Dear Shazbat,

I will definately be interested in joining. But U need to confirm about the entry in Paloma. I think u need to have a partner to get in the bar. In that case many people like me will get stuck up. Also the day has to be other than Thursday or Friday as bars r fully occupied on those days.

Please consider this fact as well.

Hi there, I am new to QL and would be in Doha with my wife for my new appointment with QP on Jan 9, 2007 and would be great if could meet up with the members once we are there.

This forum is brilliant and I would very much appreciate an event to meet up and make new friends in this new land.

Not sure about the t's - you could always go for the traditional paper under the arm or a flower in the lapel! I think I have seen to many old films.

I'd be up for meeting people when i arrive around the 8th of January. I want to make a few friends early so I don't get bored.

I don't know about getting a qatar living t-shirt. Maybe i'll just wear something bright instead!

how about everybody wears qatar living t-shirts. i remember qatari put up a poll to see how many people would buy 'qatar living' t-shirts if produced, and the response was fairly high.

qatari, anything happening on those t-shirts?
