my husband has been offered a position with qatar petroleum. is there anyone else out there who works for them who could comment on the type of accommodation we are likely to be offerred? is accommodation owned by the company or do they rent accommodation for their workers? to what, if any, extent do we get a say in where we live?

thks in advance

Sarah,

When your husband will get a written contract from QP, the type of accomodation you will be offered and related conditions will be clearly spelled out in there.

For 'SENIOR' staff, the first 3 months are paid by QP and you will live in their compound. Past that period, you will receive an allowance for housing, you will have to leave their compound and you will have to find your own place to live.

For 'NON-SENIOR' staff, i am not familiar with the conditions. Hope this helps a bit.

Hi Sarah,

As Martin said, it depends on what position he is in the company, obviously the higher the better. Try and see if you can get QP to provide the accomodation. As rents are rising, you may be a bit ahead now taking cash but in a few years you will be way behind.

Sarah,

My father has worked for QP for 9 years. When we first moved to Doha QP had its own accomodation and would put you up in one of their compounds or apartments (depending on what your status was (i.e. single, married, etc...)). A few years back QP's policy changed and instead of putting you up in one of their properties they starting offering people cash with which to get your own place. I am not sure if QP still has limited accomodation for some of its emmployees, the majority get money and look for their own place.

Hope it helps.

Martin
