QATAR RADIO A REAL LIVE CRAP
For goodness sake is there any chance that Qatar Broadcasting Services will change their program policy.Thats the only ""english""broadcasting station in Doha, but unfortunately we have to listen the arab-french session every day, soft tunes wich for me its preferable for a psyhiatric clinic ,the morning sesion with some crap jokes, the news updates wich are horable and a lot of lovely tunes..If i had a chance to change the channel i could do it...After all their budget i believe its from the goverment...So why they dont hire a proffesionals who knows how to do a live show. Its the most disgusting Radio station I have ever listen..Dont you think so?
Learn to spell first mate. then judge...
@ Isobel, there isn't a single Indian RJ on the (absolutely rubbish) QBS radio & this topic is only about QBS radio but since you asked the question...
my Indian brothers & sisters hauled their rear ends to this neck of the woods decades ago when no one else even knew of this place, let alone wanted to come here & i'm talking even before they struck oil, when even running water & electricity was a huge luxury...the currency in this neck of the woods was the Indian Rupee(or Rupiah) till the late 50's/early 60's...even today, many older traders when asked for the price of goods will reply "10 rupiah" when they mean "10 Riyals" because they're used to calling it Rupiah...trade ties between India & the mid-east goes back a good few decades,EVERYTHING here came from India in those days...including a bunch of Indians!!!...whatever this part of the world is today has been achieved by the hard work of generations of Indians & no true citizen of any of the GCC countries will deny that fact, does that answer your question?...
As for journos, they're all crap here, irrespective of nationality...no REAL journo will willingly come to a part of the world that doesn't have free press,as for the Indian ones here, they're the ones that couldn't cut it back home in the cutting edge Indian media industry which produces some of the best journos (& some of the best advertising) on the planet...i would request you not judge the standard of Indian journalism based on what you see here because this is FAR below the standard back home in India...
Needs to get rid of QBS and Indian Journalists...
Why do Indians have so much sway here?
LOL
French used to be its own channel, but then they cut it to use the equipment for another channel, and assigned it to a time slot on QBS.
I think ictQatar should publish the requirements and fees for private radio broadcasting, and start accepting requests.
Qatar Radio and TV should start thinking about doing to the radio channels (Arabic and English) and QTV (also Arabic and English), the same thing that was done with aljazeera - It probably needs a re-format, throw them all out and start new channels with new people and equipment - get the good stuff (from both).
4. QBS should find out who is listening, and what they want to hear. During drive-time, music should be geared towards the great bulk of English speakers who like to listen to popular music. That means, it should be the top-10 from England, USA and Australia, and classic tracks from the past year.
5. The station should try to maintain a similar feeling across the day. This could be done with playlists. Obscure music (either obscure genres or hits from the 1950s) should only be played in the early mornings when no one is listening.
Maria Ghasan came onto QL a couple of nights ago, and resurrected a six-month-old thread that criticized the newsreaders and music choices. She blamed the poor news on badly written copy, and blamed the music on listeners requests. Then, a few hours later, she had a re-think and deleted her comments.
Here are my suggestions.
1. Qatar should remove QBS's monopoly on English-language broadcasting. Competition is good, and would raise quality. The quickest and simplest way to do this would be to transmit the English service of the BBC during the day. This is what happens in Abu Dhabi.
2. French broadcasts should be given their own station. There are enough Lebanese in Qatar to make this worthwhile. Chopping into peak-listening drive-time on an English-language station with French news is mad, but I can see why French speakers wouldn't want to lose the limited time they have on the airwaves.
3. QBS should decide what kind of radio station they are. If they are a music-based station, they should ditch the poor-quality speech programmes like London call.
4. QBS should find out who is listening, and what they want to hear. During drive-time, music should be geared towards the great bulk of English speakers who like to listen to popular music. That means, it should be the top-10 from England, USA and Australia, and classic tracks from the past year.

6. Buy in a decent news feed.
There are so many coments on this subject I even didnt try to read them ,some of them are from more than 2 years back ,and all the same.Seems that the opinion of the listeners does not matter, walla what a suprise
-U like it or not we will broadcast for ever and ever..piss on u..:)
txs for sharing ur opinion i believe if there are more people like us QBS could consider that they are real crapy station ,today on the way to work i turn on the radio just to listen tuulejuuu conseruuu tuu radiooo qataaar and some arabic-french coments have anyone listen to radio in Friday?Wow thats the D-day!!!For the past few years there its some sounds coming out from my stereo like a real farm house -chickens, cows, ships and i dont know what.... did u heard that??? i think they speak some african language at fridays???Anyone?
the way some of the news readers stumble through the news in the morning is absolutely embarrassing. the female readers have these ridiculous accents, I remember "tibet" was causing them incredible difficulty last year, and when the Irish guy reads it in the mornings it sounds like he's having a drunken conversation with himself. it is one pretty poor act. I do like Ranah's show in the evenings though, she sounds quite fab!
Used to listen to the radio only when I drive, now I usually just listen to Audiobooks.
I fall asleep listening to them, i think they r the worst ever radio station
In today's news , the couldn't correctly pronounce the name of Guinea ...
Its so bad its funny, then you realise that its not funny because theres nothing else to listen to on the long drive to work. It is truely the worst radio station in the world. That Irish fella in the morning is a throw back to " Smashy and Nicey"...the rest just read a pre edited script before every song...I stopped listening about a year ago...
Actually theres a guy called Dimitri, ( i think) he's alright at times....

There is this guy Tariq Al Ward.... if u wanna die frm laughter listen to him readin the news....
the RJ's (they prefer to call themselves DJ's) r the worst i've heard so far!!! The only person commendable frm the lot is Elias Chalouhi. His Breakfast Show is a real treat; great linguistic skills, talks sense, funny, etc. and more of all things nice.
Woah, u should hear the gal who hosts the rock show in the evening!!! She sounds as though she is being forced to do it or as though she is just out of bed!!! Absolutely lackadaisical, ALL THE TIME!!!
And those news readers, tsk, tsk!!! they r concentrating so much on their pathetic funny put-on western accent that u BARELY understand wat they r trying to say!!! Who hires these ppl??? U couldn't make these kinda mistakes in ur sleep!!!
& the french transmission, who ever listens to that??? Wat a waste of peak air time!!! I think its an avenue for job creation, thats y it exists!!!
This is why i prefer to listen to Dxb or Bahrain channels!!!
