Does anybody here live in Qatar University Faculty Housing? Have you had a positive experience with housing? Where is the best place to stay for a single? Is there any negotiating?
Did they tell you anything else about the IR program? How much flexibility is there with syllabi?
BTW where are you from in the UK? What was your thesis? We may have crossed paths without knowing - I did my PhD at St. Andrews up in Scotland.
I actually specialized in history and middle eastern studies (I did my thesis on the rise of the Almohads in 12th century N. Africa) but Ive always had an interest in IR. Besides, I think the program at QU seems pretty open ended?
Yes - the compound has a communal pool and gym but were not up an running when I was there as it is a very new compound! It is about 20min or so from QU but I gather in morning traffic it is 30min. Saying that, it is under 5min from the Villagio shopping mall. Apartments are furnished.
I did not visit the library but you can do a search for books as it has a website under the QU page.
Yes, I think we may be neighbors! What were some of your other impressions of QU? Im a bit worried about access to the full range of research materials, did you visit the library?
Oh - and is there a pool in the compound? ( a definite plus!)

Hey academia! I'll be starting soon as an Assistant Professor in International Affairs so I think it’s likely we will be neighbors as you will be new faculty also!
I was shown accommodation in December when I was last in Doha and it is very nice. Assuming we are allocated the same place, it is a new compound just over 15min from the QU campus. Apartments are three large bedrooms, large kitchen and living room/dinning room...
