A Qatari Culinary Experience
Have you tried Qatari food yet? If not, let me introduce you to some traditional dishes you must try during your stay in Doha.
Souk waqif is a well known hotspot to sample machboos, a rice dish served with either fish, chicken or meat, Mathrooba, made with chicken or meat beaten with flour and oats and Salonah also known as a Qatari stew.

Nevertheless, there are a number of cafes and restaurants across the country that also offer a local dining experience. During this Eid break why don't you experience some of these less known yet enjoyable places.

For a light breakfast on the go visit Baid O Tomat for a selection of wraps. You must try some of the traditional wraps; Baid o Balaleet, which is sweet vermicelli layers over scrambled eggs or the Asida wrap; a sweet relish. Accompany this meal with a karak or arabic coffee for an even greater experience.

There is also Kashta, located in the Gulf mall. This place offers popular local dishes such as tamriya, which is a date dessert, the common Qatari timbits, luqaimat and Keema, a minced meat dish mixed with peas and served with chapati. They also have delicious dates pancakes served with ice cream. This is a must if you visit this small cafe.

For a modern twist to the Qatari cuisine then do pop by Fouj cafe located on bank street, in close proximity to Souq waqif. You can sample a range of savory and sweet dishes. Some of the popular local dishes they offer are the chicken biryani and lamb salonah, a flavored lamb stew accompanied with rice. You can not visit this place and not try their scrumptious desserts. They have a mahalabiya cheesecake, a twist to their commonly known custard dessert, oum Ali served in a coffee mug with a dollop of ice cream and a cinnamon stick. This bread pudding is widely consumed all over the Middle East. What I admire about this place is their presentation and the richness of their desserts.

Brit: There you go wrong again. Chin Tu Fat could not be in Arabic robes but under an attractive Abaya. )-
If you'd gone to 'Ya Baba Rizks Emporium', you would not have had to wait, and would have been guided to your seat by Chin Tu Fat dressed in Arabic robes ...
Karak may be but I talking about the Brand Karak Chapati, which has a shop in Katara and another opposite Harrods. I had to wait 10 minutes to get a seat :-)
Godfather: Rizks tells me that he sees Karak as Indian originaly ...
