Qatari hotel guests

In the middle of an article about Qatari visas, tourism, etc, was this curious fact:

"Qataris and other GCC nationals formed 31 percent of the total hotel guests during 2010. The highest number of guests were Qataris-348,000 — followed by Saudi nationals who came second, with 100,000 guests."

http://thepeninsulaqatar.com/qatar/161878-hotel-occupancy-rises-by-12pc.html

I can't for the life of me think why on any given day there are about 1,000 Qataris checking into a hotel in Qatar.  I can think of one reason why Qatari men might visit a hotel, if he is doing something that he doesn't want his wife to know about, but seriously... 348,000 hotel stays in a year??

Any thoughts?

i don't know what they do here, but it was pretty normal to book hotel rooms for our office parties/bridal showers/birthdays back home. especially since we have corporate discounts at certain hotels.  people who should not drink and drive, or those who no longer have the presence of mind to get themselves home, can stay over. really drunk people can have a decent bathroom to puke in (without being such trouble to the hosts as in the case of home parties). nothing wrong with that.

May be just like that as we keep an eye on the camping gear left in trucks at airport...:)

Good point flor!I've been down to Sealine heaps of times for parties in the chalets, and there are usually about 20 Qataris sharing the rooms.  Perhaps the statistic is based on the number of guests per room?  In which case even 10 people per chalet most nights a week at Sealine would be close to 100,000 guests there and then??

does Qataris and Saudis mean "Male species only"?Nothing in the article it says "he".  It's a fragment of imagination to suggest the guest are all male! Injecting something maliicious in the thread?

many companies have seminars / meetings at hotels and probably provide employees with hotel rooms. Perhaps its a way of 'circulting" money :O)

during training and prior to games, this might account for some of the guest count :)

as i said before fubar which you feel sad about it, that most of Qataris likes to spend sometime in a hotel with their families or sometimes just want to be alone and at peace. me and my husband also checking in hotels for a change of environment after a whole week of stress from work. just for relaxation. i think you are fishing for something else....... hahahahahhaa.... nice try

topic?

I am trying to think outside the box.  That's why I posted the topic and asked for suggestions.  If I was convinced that there was only one reason why any Qatari would check in to a hotel, I wouldn't be canvassing readers for others reasons, would I?And even I don't believe that every one of the average 953 Qatari who will check in to a hotel tonight and every other night are bonking a hooker.  It's just such a huge, and seemingly inexplicable number.

Or probably they have too much money, that they dont know where/how to spend it :P

A friend of mine, who works in a coffee shop told me how amused she is with Qatari men, they have 2 or more wives but still opted to have coffee outside... as if none of their wives makes them coffee.

Think outside the box!!

do we (men) have to check in into a hotel if we want to do something wrong!! is this the only thing u can think of!!

i had a very good offer in Grand Hayatt Resort - so i stayed there for 3 nights with my family -

Moreover 6 of my friends had the same offer and they also had couple of nights in the resort with their families!

Think positive dude!!

Sure, lets say "..they need a change ..." or "..Mesaieed, Al Khor, Dukhan and Shamal must stay in hotel when in Doha ..." and sure, lets say "... some with their families.." and finally, sure, lets say "... they like the luxury of it ..." Blank stare AND tumbleweed.

May be they are tired of having the same food at home need for a change?

What sort of homes must these guys be coming from where they need to spend a night in a hotel to relax? That's actually quite a sad, but probably true, observation xedesmarie.

hey fubar... my thoughts on this one? some, like to stay in hotels more than in their homes. why? sometimes, they like to be at peace and alone and just enjoy the luxury of it.

Haha! Lets just say they're in for business meeting or rather just taking a day off from too busy life style.
