It's the same in most countries. If you have no expereince you get denied a work permit. The logic goes, if the position requires no experience then how can you say a citizen of that country is not qualified.

However I do feel a twinge of sympathy for expats who were born here and lived here all their life. They know no other life, but you can't blame that situation on the Qatar Govt!

One has to look at the bigger picture here....if you know that 80% of jobs here are occupied by expats then that's bad for our economy full stop....you get paid a pretty decent wage and you enjoy the benefits here so why still complain about Qatari's not deserving of their jobs and using "wasta"? locals account for 20% of the population so we've got no option but to make the best of that situation! Besides, I find that too many ppl are either misguided or exaggerating when they talk about "wasta"...most locals, my generation anyway, are educated and hard-working so you're wrong when you say we're not deserving of certain jobs.

Also, at the end of the day I like to think Im human....I dont want to be felt alienated because of my nationality...or to be told that Im spoiled...or that I dont deserve something because Im privilged.

I have to agree with baj on this one. Why hire expats when your own people are capable of doing that job? If they gave away jobs in Canada to expats when there were perfectly fit Canadians to give the jobs to there would be a riot in the country.

I just like to clarify that Qatarization doesn't mean that they're going to replace any one by recruiting Qataris( i think by now this is clear, some just don't seem to get it).

The reason I said what I said was because sooner or later someone had to say it to him! I would be equally sick of someone constantly praising Qatar in every way possible because it's just not right. Novita, I'm not trying to turn this into Qatari's VS Expats thread or whatever....I just wish that other members here dont think differently of what I said because it came from me and I happen to be local. I just made a very simple point...why would anyone want to stay in a place that makes them so miserable? from what Ive gathered sas1 doesnt like Qatar one bit...my advice to him is very simple...if Qatar wont make you happy then go somewhere that will. Easy peasy.

"People

The country IS called Qatar and priority will be given TO Qataries whether you like it or not. sas if things are THAT bad for you then why are you still here? If you dont learn to make the best of what you've got then there's always another country to go to and b***h about! "

-----> Calm down. Your government doing the right thing. Qatari people are very capable running their own country. They dont need foreigner to help them. Inshaallah years down the line there will be no expat living in Qatar because your country would be self sufficient. Then i will have to say 'bye' to one of my nicest local friend 'bajesus' :P because my husband will have to find work somewhere else.

This means that about 80% of Qatar's population i.e. non-Qataris would be out of Qatar. It means I should start looking for another job.

Some people have jobs even before they join the universities. whereas I had to work really hard in order to get my first job. Had to compete with 70 more applicants. Guess me ain't lucky after all.

Well if you got denied a visa why blame that for Qatarisation? Go try somewhere else. You couldnt get a job in Lebanon and you blame Qatarisation for not getting a job here!!!!!!!!!!!

At least its high time Qataris started doing their own work.
