Attendance check! All my friends please acknowledge their presence on QL today. Read the article below for more info.

Funniest part is the way he got caught (the paragraph below highlighted in bold). Poor terrorists are only good with guns and missiles, pretty bad with the numbers. No surprises how they ended up becoming terrorists! LOL

Detained man vanishes from Mumbai airport

19 Feb 2008

In a major security breach, an alleged terrorist went missing from Mumbai airport today (February 19), after being detained for interrogation.

The suspected terrorist - Watangi Safiahmad Gafar - arrived from Doha on Monday morning and was first detained for travelling on a fake passport. Further interrogation by the immigration authorities led them to believe Gafar had terror links. Gafar had arrived aboard Qatar airlines QR200.

Immigration authorities grew suspicious of his identity when they checked his passport. Sources say what sent alarm bells ringing was the improbable date of birth stated in the his passport, that of 01-00-1930. Not only was there a major goof up in the month of birth, the year mentioned did not match with the man's appearance as the passenger appeared not older than 50.

The dubious passport also gave rise to suspicion of possible terror links and Watangi was immediately taken in for interrogation. But no sooner was he detained, Watangi, who was kept in the transit area, disappeared.

A massive manhunt has been launched across Mumbai airport since last evening and airport officials have tipped off the police as well as the security personnel.

Meanwhile a blamegame has also begun among various authorities at the airport who were responsible for dealing with Gafar - while security agency sources said the airport immigration authorities were to be blamed for not keeping such a suspect in a detention area with an armed guard in accordance with the rulebook - immigration authorities state that Qatar airlines was handed over charge of the detainee as per the routine, and the airlines asked inexperienced ground handling staff to look after him resulting in his disappearance.

So far the man has not been designated as having escaped, but is 'missing'.

Umm... I guess because this person was pretty stupid to travel on such a passport which had his date of birth shown as 01-00-1930, with or without his knowledge.

Why the caption "Qatar's Dumbest Criminal"?

He must have left Doha with his real passport - surely the inept staff here wouldn't *that* dumb.

Or maybe the Qatar Airways staff knew he was travelling on a false passport, but decided it was better to get him out of Doha, and out of their hands - send him to India and let them try to deal with the problem.

But is he really the dumb one? He managed to escape, after all.

You'd be surprised at how lax some airport security is....enough to make you think twice about flying lol.

Stay safe all.

Perfection does not exist. The question therefore, is: what level of imperfection are we willing to settle for?

"."

He could have been a transit passenger.

The dumb ones I think are the immigration officials who couldnt even keep hime in their custody

Phew! Thank God atleast you and Canarybird are here in Doha. LOL

Yeah, what a weirdo!

But I still doubt he's a terrorist. Was watching news on TV yesterday, they said he was a person from Pakistani origin and Indian media loves to overuse 'terrorist infiltration' whenever there's anything to do with Pakistan.

He could well be fantasized by Bollywood or Bombay city itself. For I know for a fact that a lot of my Pakistani friends here fancy going to Bombay and meet the stars from the movies, obviously presuming that Bombay is a small town full of celebrities and bumping into them is a daily routine.

Exactly, if he is a suspected terrorist they should keep him in detention area and not along with transit passengers. Once you pass the immigration section no one is asking you for your passport.

It is a major flaw by the Mumbai Airport immigration section. Hope he is not doing his homework for yet another blast in the city.

If he had shown that passport at Doha airport it is amazing he got through with it but much more amazing is that he is missing lol.

Good morning present sir..…. how are you doing? guess you are busy these days.. How can someone be soooooooo dump, how did he manage with the immigration check at Doha Airport? when they hold back people with traffic fines? Very strange......Maybe he showed his real passport here in Doha and ended up showing his fake one at Mumbai Airport.  At least he should do a quality check before handing over the fake one...this proves that they got only muscles and  no brains...LOL
