QL...friend or foe...you decide

lullabelle
By lullabelle

It seems that no matter what anyone posts, suggests, feels, embraces, declines or whatever, there will always be someone on this website who will, no matter what, condemn the actions of another for bringing a subject to our attention.

There are constantly cries of racism, bigotism, xenophobia, and probably much much worse.

It's called Qatar "Living" but should be called Qatar "Killing".

I am all for a good valid argument and discussion but a lot of members wear blinkers and have their tiny minds made up before hand. The more I read the more disillusioned I become with this site.

New comers are just told to "search for answers" now and no one cares to reply to them. A lot of questions are asked repeatedly but isn't, or should I say wasn't that the whole point of this site to start with????

I am saddened by this and I hope that people will start to embrace again and not mock, tease or dismiss other peoples comments and questions.

I leave it up to you, Qler's, is QL friend or foe??

indeed.... just like when there is night and then there is day, there is hot and cold... good and bad, and so on.

one gets to compliment the other...an absence of the opposite will NULL the very essence, meaning and existence of the other.

... and we all have to live with that, whether we like it or not :)

i think it's friendly if ideas gets discussed with respect to others and on proper timing when we all had free time...

on the contrary, we may all find a foe if official working time is used up in QL discussions... for One, a big FOE coming from our bosses :(

personally, we all get to benefit in one way or another by means of time spent bringing forth ideas and fun altogether.... that seems "friendly" enough generally, at least on my understanding...

Friend.

And I listen to different PoVs and constructive criticisms. I ignore the ones who "wear blinkers and have their tiny minds made up before hand."

But as for newcomers being told to "search for answers" now - you gotta admit that it's a bit irritating to see the same question posted over and over again ad infinitum when the answers could be obtained with a little effort on their part. Many people are just lazy.

Some genuinely do not know how to search or some really don't have time - true. Many people don't know how to do their research and it takes time to learn and the patience of others to inform. It's really great to see some of the seniors patiently replying to questions which have been asked before.

You said "I am saddened by this and I hope that people will start to embrace again and not mock, tease or dismiss other peoples comments and questions."

- Do you answer those repeated questions? I see britexpat, drac, qatarisun, etc. replying often. I don't answer many questions because I don't know enough about Qatar. I have had a number of my earlier questions unanswered. I just let it go and move on and try to find my answers some other way. I don't feel hurt or anything. I just assume that people probably missed my question or they simply didn't know the answer or whatever other reasons.

In respect of dismissive or rude comments, yeah, it's hurtful there and then but I get over it, one way or another. Subsequent posts from those people will tell me whether or not the person is narrow minded and should be ignored or broad minded, fair and PoV should be noted.

For Whom It My Concern!

(n.a.: Posted before in QL)

Everybody loves to have a friendly and warm conversation in QatarLiving site.

Let’s just go over to QatarLiving.com to have a look?

I am against War!

The old year ended with such a tragedy in Gaza which might affected the one or the other family-member or friend of QL members.

(If so, I either wish this family member/friend to get well soon or in worst case please take my sincere condolences!)

But, why here?

Why in QL?

Try to draw a line in what we are posting.

Go head and be honest in your arguments and comments, but not too honest if you have never met the QL’s.

We are only QLers here; most of us don't really meet in real life.

How do you know that a QL member will take it?

If you don't know people, don't expect them to absorb your cynical posts.

Even friends can fallout at the littlest impoliteness.

Let's say I am your good friend and your girlfriend is really very ugly.

Do you like your friend to tell you the 'honest' words right in your face that your girlfriend is ugly?

No, right?

So the same goes to everyone here - you treat everybody like your friend.

Be honest, but polite.

Certain things can be honest, but certain things we better keep inside ourselves and shut up.

You are not people's leader, and in Qatar living site they don't even know you!

If you have put some biographies in your profile, people know at least who you are. People will respect you a bit and even rethink your harsh comments.

Of course, if you don't list out your stuff, people won't know who you are.

Then don't blame people for firing back.

In case anyone doesn't know what sarcasm is, here's an example:

Polite: Your post is not good, brother. Can be better …

Harsh: What are you posting? Really cannot make it.

Rude: Your post is so bad that I want to vomit.

In an argument, each party wants to win.

You can just stand back and let them win.

This also reveals the uselessness of an argument.

Bro, go out more and take ideas and post them here.

This is what this forum is for.

There is no point arguing, really.

I usually make my point and go, that's all.

THERE IS NO POINT IN CONTINUING AN ARGUMENT THREAD FOR HUNDRED OVER PAGES.

Everybody has a point and everybody wants people to accept their points.

This is not possible.

Take it with a pinch of salt.

Bloody regards,

Drac

Finally , someone witha good question. I hate it when people disagree with my postings. I too question the value of QL. I just keep hoping that they will one day come round to my way of thinking..

I am constantly amazed by peoples answers and suggestions to comments placed on the site. I may be being a bit "anal" but I have also received comments that are nothing more than digs or worse. So what is the point of QL? Are they designed for people to make friends or foe, quite a simple question.

QL

buddy...

this a battleground of ideas and opinions, where respect is a suggestion ONLY to those who are foreign to diversity.

listen to PM.
