Quality of Life:Why is Qatar behind?

engr2002
By engr2002

This is my first time in GCC region. For those of you who lived in other GCC countries like Kuwait, SA, UAE, Bahrain I have these questions especially compared with Western standards:

Do they all have horrible housing (finishes) quality?
For example you need to clean villa every day because they never landscape around it or compound. They leave dirt, sand, rocks and people throw trash on these unpaved, un-landscaped areas as if the whole city is a public dumpster... Inside the house terrible quality. Things break all the time. Cheap cheap materials and the most expensive rent in the world... WHY?????

Do they all have huge PEST infestation like here?

Customer Service is absolutely non-existent. What about other GCC?

Where are clean parks? In Western cities you have park (neighborhood parks) in every corner. Very very clean with clean facilities and clean playground for children.

Have you seen the one in Bidaa or Rumailah? Very very dirty indeed and very unhealthy for clean children.

Even kids play areas in some malls are very overcrowded and not clean frankly. You also have uncivilized children pushing and shoving and NO RESPECT for orderly lines (queues) whatsoever... Is this common disease in the whole region?

*** And this also: In the West, you go to parks and you see Mom and Dad playing and supervising their own children (well-behaved ones for the most part). Here you only see MAIDS with Children. Where is Mom and Dad? Why are children raised and entertained by idiot maids??? This explains the very aggressive and uncivilized behavior of children here.

I hear UAE is much better and they have lots of GREEN parks and better facilities. These dudes need to allocate some serious budget to create a beautiful green city with good facilities....

Again, I am sure local government would love to do this and they have so many great brains and well-educated people. In fact, I noticed so many Qataris are nice and well-educated. The problem is really too much population growth mostly from uncivilized backward countries..... Too many loiterers in the streets... In fact I am shocked at all these Asian single men loitering in the streets everywhere in huge numbers day and night... I wish they have a strict Immigration Raids like US has because I bet they have HUGE number of illegal men committing crimes and theft and doing nothing because they come to the country and then disappear in the crowd.

anyway, in the other thread, we already told him to be a little respectful of other people when he talks in general or of a particular group of people such as the domestic helpers. Many of them are respectable and doing their share as human being. Whatever their nationalities are, do not call them idiots. If there are few who are considered bad, it's still not a sign of a matured or respectable person if you are acting like this.

WE UNDERSATND ALL THE PROBLEMS RELATED TO RENTS AND CLEAN NOT CLEAN BUT PLS DON'T COMPARE QATAR FROM US OR UK IT'S A DIFFERENT COUNTRY AND THAT TOO IT'S DEVELOPING NOT DEVELOPED AND BY THE WAY IF YOU WANT ALL THIS FACILITY TO BE DONE YOU NEED TO HAVE ASIANS HERE. DO YOU THINK PEOPLE FROM US AND UK WILL WORK LIKE A LABOUR IN THIS HOT COUNTRY AND IN LESS SALARY....... AND PEOPLE WITH GOOD DRESS , WITH GOOD LOOKS, GOOD EARNINGS ARE ONLY HUMAN BEINGS. ASIANS ARE NOT HUMAN BEINGS....AND TELL ME ONE DAMM COUNTRY WHERE CRIME RATE IS ZEROOOO AS MUCH AS MY GENERAL KNOWLEDGE SAYS AMERICA IS NUMBER ONE IN CRIME.... HOW'Z THAT!!!!!!!!!! SOOO DEAR THIS IS A SUGESSTION FROM AN ASIAN FOR NOT BEING SPECIFIC. THERE ARE THOUSAND EXAMPLE EVEN PEOPLE HAVE TO COMPARE THEIR COUNTRY WITH URS BUT DECENCY SAYS NOOOOOOO.

engr2002...one at a time...here we go:

Horrible housing (finishes) quality?

Depends upon the contractor & the quality he uses.

For example you need to clean villa every day:

Are You talking about the dust that gets inside the rooms? The doors & windows have to be dust-proofed (easiest way is to put the translucent tape around the edges). This too was the job of the Contractor.

They never landscape around it or compound.

Depends upon the budget/mood of the Qatari. If you did not like unlandscaped villas you can rent one.

People throw trash...

Agreed ...they do ...there should be advertisment on the TV/Theaters to educate people especially the young not to throw trash...(or glass bottles where kids play).

Inside the house terrible quality. Things break all the time. Cheap cheap materials and the most expensive rent in the world... WHY?????

Again Contractor to Blame. The Landlord usually is unable to "see" the quality of the Plumbing & Electrical as they are inside the wall. Most of the time the landlord would consider these essential issue as minor.

Wood here is of very poorquality....they are heavy but not strong. There are better quality wood available now.

Do they all have huge PEST infestation like here?

Most of the pest (cockroach) comes out due to the bad drain covers & open washbasin/BathTub holes. The holes in the wash basin drain has to be very small.

Customer Service is absolutely non-existent. What about other GCC?

True. This will be here for ever. This is due to the Sponsor system and would exist wherever there is sponsorship system (read the GCC).

Where are clean parks?

The only complain I had about parks are they have No Artifically shaded area to shield the children from the sun. Thus the parks can only utlised for less than 10% of the year!

Of course there are people who throw glass bottles around which could hurt the kids.

Even kids play areas in some malls are very overcrowded and not clean frankly.

Overcrowded ...YES

Unclean...???? What do you expect it to be like a hospital?

You also have uncivilized children pushing and shoving and NO RESPECT for orderly lines (queues) whatsoever... Is this common disease in the whole region?

Most of the time the expats dont say anything if they jump the queue. Did you ask them to stand in the line? I did & they have.

*** And this also: In the West, you go to parks and you see Mom and Dad playing and supervising their own children (well-behaved ones for the most part). Here you only see MAIDS with Children. Where is Mom and Dad?

Mom & Dad are usually nearby...I guess...lol

I hear UAE is much better ...

Of course they are ...Qatar does not have a 5 lane road yet...or Rail....but they are getting there.... slowly.

The problem is really too much population growth mostly from uncivilized backward countries.....

Qatar cannot do much of population growth in Uncivilized Backward Countries...can it?

Too many loiterers in the streets...

No ... they did not escape from classroom....but out to get a nice "tan" in 43 degrees.

I wish they have a strict Immigration Raids ....99.99% of them have IDs,Health Card & Insurance on them.....there is a thing called Work Permit.

I tried to answer as best as I could.....shoot if you have more.

No - for many it's just another stop-off on a career path which takes them to many different places.

I think too much money spoils people. And since human nature tends to laziness the first thing that a rich person does is delegating tiresome duties to servants. But my point is that love and care for children cannot be delegated to anybody other than the parents. That's why the children of nanny free families have better manners than rich kids. And this is a whidespread phenomenon in the region.

As for landscaping, that's a latin term around here with very few exceptions.

Hi enqr2002

Crime rate in Qatar is much lesser than any western countries.

and If they kick out all asian labours from this country then who is supposed to do the blue collar jobs for a salary of 600 QR. Do you have any alternative of Goodlooking, Higly educated and well cultured people. or will you introduce Robots here...

Grow up man

I am new, but I understand Qatar has startd booming just 5 years back or so?? correct me if am wrong. We all are here because of tht. Its sort of a transition phase I guess engr, give it time...

I totally disagree and am rather upset with you on your comments on Asian single men. They are labours probably, they are the ones building this nation, wher do you want them to hide?. in US you will be cleaning your toilet on sundays, here these poor guys and the IDIOT maids ( the way you called them) cleans it for you. So be thankful to them and they are not slaves.

Hi hash, I know there are a few exceptions but you cannot judge everyone because of that, I was referring not to some spoiled qatari but to other nationalities as a whole. thanks.

Why is it that when ever you have a complaint someone says "if you don't like it then leave?" I hate this statement, and if it was true then do you really think this country or anyother country would have the expats it has now?

I agree with you engr2002 about the amount of single Asian men here, but unfortunately the labor work is done by these poor men and they can't afford to bring their wives or family here, so nothing for them to do but hang around in groups. I know it's not a nice site to see, but come on, the States has the same problem. At least these Asians here are legally brought over, in the States most of them are illegal and crime is worse there.

Again an agreement with you, the housing finishing here is a complete disaster, so taste what-so-ever, but you do find the odd villa or apartment that has great finishing touches, but boy do you have to pay for that. There is no such thing as planning in this country, or else they hire the worst people in the world to plan for them.

Engr2002 is right in noticing that maids replace mom and dad in this region. What family tie can be closer than parent to child? A maid cannot impose authority required to teach children how to behave so you do end up with stuck up kids with no manners. The older generation didn't have all these maids and drivers, that's why Qatari adults are much more pleasant and civilised than the younger generation. So which standards were you talking about Afaque?

By taliesin• 14 Jul 2008 08:44
taliesin

it was only me who noticed this, especially second paragraph. And Marhabtain, once here most people can't "try leaving" until they've finished the job they came here to do.

Well another thing you mentioned about cleanliness - I find most of the parks and malls quite clean and hygeinic, don't know what the western standards are but here we stress on cultural and family ties more and in this matter the standards are pretty higher than the west.

Qatar happens to be a land of understed beauty. It also has a deeply hidden culture - apparently its behind KFC on Salwa Road next to Fifis Pole Dancing Club and Garveys. If u hate it so much why not try leaving - Darfur is nice at this time of year yah! Hic! Back to the gin,,,,,

They will never be done with silly tower after silly tower as if Progress and Civilization is measured solely by number of towers your city has!

Hell they have more towers than Paris or London :-)

yeah sure, after they are done with the towers, they will think about the parks I guess.
