damn...yesterday i saw a car crash on ramada signal at 10:50.

apparently what happened was that a toyota car(sedan not 4x4) did a U turn and then a landcruiser drove off the red light and hit the car.KNOWING THAT THERES SPEED SIGNALS OR SENSORS ON ALL SIDES OF RAMADA TRAFIC LIGHT.so the sedan hit the traffic light and got all bent from both sides all glass was broken.all airbags where open.all the peole gathered round even the people in the pizza hut restaurant.the land cruiser got badly hit from the front.and amzingly th epolice came before the ambulance by about 1 minute.

which means that the

The roads in Qatar or more importantly the driving standards here in Qatar are a disgrace.   Nationality aside, Landcruisers......mini vans......and buses....should be avoided at all costs when confronted at roundabouts, traffic lights or anything else that requires a moments consideration for anyone else.

The only driving standards worse than here are in Egypt....beyond explanation.

Seriously people learn  the road rules, be more patient, slow the funk down and most importantly stop buying your kids cars they cant drive.

I am very careful driving not only  around pedestrians but guys on bicycles thinking what if they want to deliberately fall in front of me hoping for financial reward!  Its sad to have to think like that but when you see the poverty you realize people do drastic things to change their situation. Thats why I drive an old car now less likely to think it will be worthwhile. My son told me their was a recent motorcycle accident here and the mans arm was cut off.  Riding motorcycles here is risky.

this is stupid to be honest just hope that no one got hurt on the crash, this has nothing to do with the laws or the people. so no one should be making accusations or pointing fingers. it is an accident plain and simple.

There is another story out there that a worker who was already dead was thrown in front of a lorry on the corniche to make it seem like the driver hit him and then they found the worker had been dead longer!  Don't know if this is true just heard the story. Strange things happen when people are desperate for money.

I forgot about that ... you told me that he likes bikes too. Pls ask him to be careful ... .

If i am not mistaken Vegas also have Harley or bikes over here?

Blood money obviously alot to pay  ... but when you paralyzed or have to go in the wheel chairs that wont be replacable for any amount of money in the world.

If you are a motor bike lovers ... pls dont do it here. It is word of advice from me as QL'er friend in Qatar.

You can be really careful and safety minded person ... but you can't control what in others people's mind and what they intend to do. Just need to be in the wrong place and in the wrong time ...

"But, people also cross the road at night while there are cars driving

at speed....have seen it many times...do these people have a suicide

wish? "

---> Some of them did have a suicide wish. These labour had to pay lump sum of money to get jobs in the gulf. Sometimes they had to borrow or sell their lands just to pay the manpower agent.

About 2 or 3 yrs ago ... my thai girlfriend's hubby had a mishap. He is from OZ. And always goes to work with his Harley. One day when he finished work in Toyota Signal ... a labour jumped in front of his bike while the light is green. Both of them hospitalized for quite sometimes (the poor worker apparently tried to commit suicide because of the debt back home, he figure out if an expat involve he could claim a bloody money for his family). My friend is now paralyzed (spelling?) ... and he cant leave the country for the court case. Now the couple packed up their life from Qatar and back to Thailand tried to put everything behind. Whose fault is that?

Be careful about generalizing their are Indians that wear a dishdashas and the head dress!  Also, all nationalties here are driving badly, we have even seen an American women with babies in the car making major errors in judgement.  I guess we all get into the agressive driving to survive on the roads, it seems to make everyone adapt bad driving skills.

It proves that money cant give you brains.

and why only talk of Qataris. I think the crazy drivers are more from countries like Sudan, Egypt, Lebenon & nearby countries also. We only generalise them as Qataris b'cos of their dress.

during my travels i found that in certain parts of the world ppl cross roads without looking to the left or the right , they just cross regardless if ther eis traffic or not , why? simply because they expect the motorist to stop when they see pedestrians crossing the roads. so it is not that pedestrians look out for traffic when crossing but motorists(traffic)look out for pedestrians when on the road......if you are in these countries you are required to stop to allow them to cross the roads even if the traffic lights are green.......just my observation

Medo_qatar... bitter much?

Besides... the very fact that running a red light = accidents is going to take a couple more decades to sink through here. I find that people are a little slow on the uptake.

At the very least we should be thankful that drinking hasn't been added to the mix!

Who said the new law didn't change any thing

the new law will collect more money from the expats to have new land cruisers for the qataris so they can kill more expats

Really i have one questions for all qataris why they drive soooo quickly if they don't have any thing to do in the country we are here to work instead of them

It is ok to do mistake, but it is a Big mistake to insist to do the same mistake and you know it is mistake
