Ramada for a drink?

Last night I really needed a drink. Its been a tough week and I just felt like having a quick beer so I wanted to go somewhere where there was no entrance charge.

I dropped into the Ramada as I live within walking distance and went to the 1st floor Sherezad bar. It is a really crap place. The place was full of Chinese prostitiutes (at least 50 of them) and fat, boorish western men. Boring fat drunken guys with loud voices haggling with Chinese prostitutes is not my scene so I went up to the Library bar on the 11th floor. Definately, more civilized but with an appalling two person band that really sucked.

What is going on with the Ramada? My advice is to give it a miss unless you like the above. For a quiet drink, I think  Movenpick is the nicest and for a social night, I like Paloma. Anyone have other suggestions for a good place for a drink?

Qube at Ramada is not a bad bar. Ideal if in a mixed group becuase you can go to the bar upstairs which is much nicer than being downstairs. The bands are a bit of eye candy as well. It also makes the ladies feel a bit more comfortable as they don't tend to get harassed upstairs.

P.S. I would recommend not going to the bar in the Mercure (Sofitel). Slightly scary.

Paloma makes the worst Margaritas..sad especially for a Tex-Mex place.

Don't drink alcohol, if your Driving in Doha. Is a serious crime.

Always use a taxi or a limo service.

I dont drink, but alas my best frnds are all bloody drunks...

so here is the low down on the booze scene in Qatar...

The best place is at Marriots, its the nicest, then on the list is Paloma(Hotel Intercontinental).... my personal preference is Paloma for I like the ambience.... stay away from Merweb and Ramada for they are filled with creepazoids..
