Reckless transport drivers

There was an accident involving a nurse transport to Al Khor. Many times I have witness these drivers overspending and driving reckless with little or no regard for other drivers or the lives of the people on board. When is the government going to wake up and enforce controls on these transport companies? Or are the company owners too highly connected and profit over rules?????

From what they say in the times this morning is that it is a private company

Can one clarify if the Van is a hired transport vehicle for Hamad employees or it is a private transport??

I am sad to say that a young Egyptian nurse did not make it. She passed away this morning. May God grant her peace. Deepest sympathy to her family.

I think the transport department should try some technique wherein they can regulate speeds for human and materials transportation such as company transportation and school buses to the mimimum of 80 KM/hr as is the case with heavy vehicles. If they want to get to work on time, leave your accomodation accordingly. Feel sorry for the lost lives including the unborn. God Bless their souls

for those seating in front only (including the driver.  But for backseat passengers, they are relax! And I don't know if all vans have individuak seatbelts, i.e., 12-seater vans have 12 seatbelts?

You must ask your self who owns these vans and then you will know why

But they don't enforce the law.

I have never seen a cop pull anyone over here.

Even they do violation right in front of the cop...

so the driver survived. So rear tyre blown and if the van is travelling at 120 (which is the speed limit), the scenario is bound to happen. Condolences to all the victims!

why blame recklessd riving when the driver himself is dead.  Lets concentrate on making it positively viewed. These kinds of accidents can't be avoided but risk of it to happen can be minimized for sure.

I remember in Australia the taxis and company service vehicles won't move until each passenger has their seat belt on. I think this should be done here.

What we are debating - does not take away the tragedy and sadness what has happened. Let's concentrate on that. This is sad enough without me or you talking of blameApologies to all involved.I hope all get help and if there is anything I can do let me know.

Most of the drivers over here are ........!The Police may investigate - but as sure as cheese is cheese it won't be the big wig at Hamad that gets the rap for this Good driving involves making sure your car is road worthy and you can drive it under any conditions Hamad do not careAccidents to others can be avoided by making sure one drives in a safe way with a safe car/van/truck

for this position? What is good driving? Police will investigate (at least). About Hamad, I have a lot of friends there and they say Hamad do care! CAn accident be avoided? Then it is not an accident?

in my limited experience is this -1) cars and vans used for transporting staff are not maintained2) the drivers employed are not qualified3) the people that are driven in these cars and vans do not have experience of 'good' driving - so do not know any different - so they do not know to shout slow down4) the people that are injured or killed in these accidents;- do not matter- simply because a local was not involved5) the Police cannot or will not do anything about it6) Hamad does not really care about its employees at all or this would not have happened All in -  this is pure tragedy and could have been avoided.Somebody, somewhere should be held accoutable for this.Kids have been left without a parent. It is a tragedy and if this had happened in the UK it would have been the first thing on the news.I may be wrong in my observations/assumptions - if I am I will apologise.

or LC's?  The vehicle involve here is a van I think? And speed limit at that highway is 120.  At 120, if you're tire get blown, what do you expect? As I said, accident are bound to happen.  It's the risk that can be minimized if not totally eradicated!

Well my dear flor212

The facts are very hard to ignore. You see these drivers every day driving like they are hell bound for Texas. And the accident its self is a very good indicator.

risk can be minimized but it could happen anytime! So unless you know all the facts of this accident, stop presmptions and guessing or pointing fingers!

I had to wait at a roundabout this morning, for a bus to pass by me.It was going so fast that the outside rear wheels were almost off the road as it went round.I dread to think what it must have been like to be a passenger on it. Idiot drivers.

These are people who dedicated their lives on watch to save lives. Many people are alive today because of their dedication and care. I hope the least the government will do is to take measures to prevent these senseless road accidents.

The police should enforce speed limits on these white transport vans (Toyota and that Nissan Urvan) – like they do for commercial trucks. Often these guys think they are landcruisers and start flashing, speeding etc. My wife too has complained of being harassed while driving.

These vans have a high center of gravity with a high chance of rolling over. Besides i do not think anyone other than the driver and front passenger wear seat belts.

I wonder if the owner of the van applies the same standards on his drivers as he is suppose to enforce on the driving public?

Just one example that could be followed here: http://clonmel-driving.com/driving-test-tips-clonmel.htmlI especially liked this one (which I seem to recall was used while back for transporting royalty:8. A good driver should be able to drive a car smoothly, i.e. when changing gear you should not cause a jerk to occur. Braking should be gentle and progressive and the accelerator should be used smoothly without 'jabbing'. Imagine you are carrying a bucket half full of water in the boot. Except in an emergency situation, (or pot holes and ramps etc.) you should not spill any of the water.

Yes that video about sums up the local driving tests. Sadly the one who owns the van and is ultimately responsible over his/her employee, pushes the driver, collects the money will throw the complete blame on the driver.  Then they call it God’s will

It annoys me that these people are employed as "Driver" and yet they have no concept of speed, safety, or basic roadcraft! If I were hiring a driver I'd sit in the back and ask him to drive around all day.

The company owners are untimely responsible to insure their drivers are safe. Sadly it is too late for one family

The simple answer is for "the passengers" to tell the driver to slow down. If that doesn't work - report him/her to the company.

maybe training the expat Drivers would be a good start.
