Renting vs. Buying

Hi. Quick question. If I plan to be in doha for two years, is it better to rent a car or buy? Any opinions?

A friend of mine made that same choice a little while ago. They initially came here and rented. After that they decided to buy a car.

I recommend buying.

If you like to through away money rent, if you are money smart you will buy. Second hand car, lets say Honda Accord will run you about 31,000 give or take for a 03', 2 years down the road you may loose 10,000 at worst. So 5000 a year to drive a car. Or you could spend 1800 times 12 which is 21,600 ayear. Its not rocket science, just logic. It doesn't matter what you buy a car for, its what you can sell it for which counts.

But then if I rentd cars for investment then I'd assume I'd convience you otherwise.

Izzie.

Its a tricky issue depending on various factors. The easy answer is yes rent a car. But if you calculate the cost of a new car and the depreciation after 2 years you can be in a beter position to decide.

some cars depreciate 10% annually and some more.

Are you looking for a small saloon car or a 4wd. The mentioned 1800 figure is for a small saloon car.

The decision is yours.

Thanks PM! I appreciate that. :=) I arrive toward the end of august. No clue where I'm living yet. Expecting to hear more about that soon from my employer. Thanks for that offer. Might take you up on it as questions come up...I've always found your responses to be really helpful!

Aaahh, decisions, decisions! Does it ever end? Moving can be a real pain at times. :=) Thanks PM and Mufy for your input. Mufy can I pm you with details about your car rental connections if i decide to go that way? Renting would probably work out better financially. I guess there's always a used car option too. Did i mention yet that i hate decisions! Anyhow, thanks again to both of you.

renting means car of ur choice... 1800 rials per month approx. wen u hit or have any accidents, u can

have a car replaced.. no tensions..

now buying a good car will cost u may be 30-50k riyals for a good one.. that too a second hand.

if u are renting for 2 years, i can give u a new car to rent a a very cheaper rate. my best freind own 3 of the best rental companies in doha. so lemme know
