I'm in shock, you all probably know why.

It was WikiPedia and Now Facebook.. needless to say, whatever we do, the online worlds nastiest psycho are using their malign motives to misguide the world about our religion; on top of that they really getting me sick of this concept of "freedom of speach".

will you allow anyone to badmouth against your father/family in the name of freedom of speach. I think everyone's freedom is an inch away from his neighbors nose. I believe, there are some part of the world .. they'll never learn,.

considering much weak and pathetic situation of muslim unity, who can not even identify rather defending its idenditity in the first place, I can only choose between two options // in retaliation to what Facebook as planned.

Yes, I am human too and I too care abt my freedom.

1- Make a Page with zillion invites about "Lets Draw Holocaust toDay"

Or
2- Boycott facebook at all.

I know it doesn't make a difference to them .. but it definitely makes a difference for me .. I atleast Know who I am and I respect my identity and my Holy Religion.

can't let these infidels play with our feelings, in the name of whatever they can call it.

good luck and best wishes for all

All these people crying foul over Facebook or Wikipedia, just prove how self-centered you are. Both of these sites don't discriminate. It is not a Muslims versus rest of the world kind of situation. All religions, races and sexes are treated and mistreated equally on these two sites so stop crying foul.

On your personal boycott opinion, all the best.

When Facebook released its latest feature, Facebook Connect, in early May, the fast-growing social media company did not get quite the reaction it was hoping for.

Instead of accolades, Facebook was confronted with a mob of angry users, many of whom took to their blogs, detailing their frustrations with the site and sometimes, threatening to quit it.

Embittered by the new features and what they deemed Facebook's lack of concern for their personal data, two Canadian Facebook users - Matthew Milan and Joseph Dee - set up QuitFacebookDay.com, inviting users to join them in opting out of the site on May 31.

On his personal blog, Milan stated that while he believes "it's acceptable for organisations to collect and use comprehensive personal data from individuals, they must do it in a way that [gives individuals] fair choices to decide how that data is used, and [is] done with the intent of serving the best interests of current (and future) society as a whole".

Privacy battles

Launched in 2004 by Harvard University student Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook was intended as a semi-private social networking site for Harvard students to interact with one another.

The site then expanded to include most universities across the US and Canada. In 2006 it opened its virtual doors to the public, allowing anyone over 13 and with a valid email address to create an account.

By early 2010, the site boasted 400 million users, 70 per cent of whom reside outside of the US.

Facebook's privacy features have changed considerably over time as well; whereas the site initially allowed users within specific, closed networks to interact with each other, the 2006 opening of the site meant that anyone could befriend another user, resulting in a backlash from some of Facebook's original users.

And in 2007, Facebook launched a public listing search, which meant that any user whose privacy settings were set to 'everyone' would have his name and profile photo listed in public search engines.

The latest changes to Facebook began in December 2009, when Facebook made large portions of user profiles - including the user's name, city of residence, photo, names of the user's friends and the causes they have signed on to - public by default.

The social networking site took things a step further this spring with the launch of Facebook Connect, an opt-out social feature intended to tie Facebook neatly to other parts of the web.

For many users, Facebook Connect was the final straw in a long line of privacy battles against the company.

The new feature meant that any items a user lists as things he likes must become public and linked to public profile pages.

Should the user choose not to link the items, then the items are removed entirely from the user's profile (although Facebook can still use them to target advertising).

Searching for alternatives

Following weeks of backlash over its latest features, Facebook finally responded by revising some of its privacy policies, making it easier for users to change their privacy settings and to turn off links with third-party services.

For some users, however, it may be a case of 'too little, too late'.

QuitFacebookDay.com has just over 25,000 users signed up.

While that number represents only .006 of the site's 400 million users, a recent study by IT security firm Sophos found that 60 per cent of Facebook users surveyed are considering leaving, while 16 per cent claim to have already done so.

The proliferation of new social networking sites such as Diaspora and the Muslim-oriented MillatFacebook seem to confirm the notion that users are looking for alternatives.

In the US, a number of groups have been lobbying for government regulations of social networking sites, undoubtedly with Facebook in mind.

Transparency vs. privacy

Despite Facebook's policy revisions, users may still have cause for concern.

Statements by Zuckerberg regarding privacy make it clear that he believes users should strive for utmost transparency, and recently, a reporter claimed that, when asked about Zuckerberg's feelings on privacy, a Facebook staffer responded: "He doesn't believe in it."

Additionally, groups like the Electronic Privacy Information Center (EPIC) are unconvinced that the changes to Facebook's privacy policies go far enough.

In an interview with CNet, EPIC director Marc Rotenberg said that although users have a fair amount of control over their information, they still cannot control how Facebook shares personal information with third-party services.

Tarsiers, in the old days it was called "loincloth" (which Jesus apparently was clad in) not g string.

By lobo1969• 24 May 2010 18:16
lobo1969

Dear Tarsiers, read following please:

As said by Jesus the Christ our lord, our savior:

Taken from the Gospel of Mathew, Chapter 5:

38"You have heard that it was said, 'Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth. 39 But I tell you, Do not resist an evil person. If someone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also. 40 And if someone wants to sue you and take your tunic, let him have your cloak as well. 41 If someone forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles. 42 Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you.

Love for Enemies

43"You have heard that it was said, 'Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.' 44 But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45 that you may be sons of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. 46 If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? 47 And if you greet only your brothers, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? 48 Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.

Jesus asked us to love our enemies, and leave justice in God hands, i know Jesus is God's son if someone offense Jesus is offending the Father, him our Father will take care...we have to obbey what we have been told to do... turn our cheak...

Blessings

"Let's Draw Holocaust Cartoons"

in the name of freedom of speech.

Why don't we all draw holocaust, thus making fun of everything and everyone. for the 10 million + jews who (might) have suffered from its haunting memories.

iow, let's pinch each other where it pains most, untill we share the pain and grief for our histories and learn to respect & understand each other.

So what you propose is that YOUR freedom of speech entitles you to call for a government to block facebook(if this is the case then of course you have that right)

But....

If however, that government acts on YOUR request then it denies EVERYONE ELSES freedom of speech. And your freedom of speech CAN NOT override anyone else's, and vica versa.

What you can do to exercise your freedom of speech, in a mature and civilised way, is to counter the event by engaging in spreading the word of your faith in a celebratory way on facebook on May 20th. There is already various Muslim campaigns set up to do this - just check out Youtube to find a myriad such posts; here is one such post:

Govt orders to ban Facebook for indefinite period

The Federal Government on Wednesday ordered to ban Facebook for an indefinite period following decision by the Lahore High Court. The row started when social networking site's management allowed members to draw Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) caricatures.

Earlier during the day, Justice Ejaz Chaudhry said that the government should record its protest at international level.

Hearing a petition regarding blasphemous page on Facebook, Chaudhry Zulfiqar Advocate said that Facebook hurt the emotions of Muslims with the publication of said page about blasphemous caricatures but the government became a silent spectator.

Deputy Attorney General Naveed Inayat Malim said that PTA has blocked the blasphemous link of Facebook. Director Telecom Mudassar Hussain said that there would be great loss after the complete closure of Facebook. Lawyers and civil society representatives protested the statement of Director Telecom.

The government yesterday had directed the PTA on the orders of LHC to block the blasphemous caricatures link on Facebook. After the directive, the PTA took necessary steps and blocked the link on Facebook.

Islamabad: Sweden embassy closed for indefinite period

The Sweden embassy in Pakistan has been closed for indefinite period following the recent caricature issue reported on social networking site Facebook.

According to embassy sources, the embassy in Islamabad and other offices across the country have been closed for indefinite period. Strong criticism and reaction came from Pakistan when social networking site's management allowed members to draw Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) caricatures.

Pakistan Foreign Office has been informed about the closure of the offices, sources added. Some ambassadorial staff members have also been asked to leave the country. Security has been beefed up around the embassy.

to all those, who discourage FB boycott or claim it doesn't matter .. well, three points to ponder.

-you obviously do not feel the same abt blasphemy as muslims do.

-you certainly don't care about anyone other than yourself.

-you don't want (deliberatly) to be part of anything positive. or to do anything to put down the fire, peacefully.

we'll talk to the ministry, yes .. in the mean time enjoy a short story :

The Starfish Story

A young boy walked along a stretch of beach skimming shells into the waves, The boy noticed the distant figure of an old man. Curious to see what, the man was doing, he dropped his shells and ran through the sand.

As he approached, the boy noticed the man repeatedly stooping to pick up objects and throw them beyond the breaking surf. The boy also noticed that the sand was strewn with thousands of starfish, washed ashore by the out going tide.

The boy watched the man repeat his actions to returning starfish to the cool waters before the became lifeless, baked by the noonday sun.

The boy spoke. "I see you throwing starfish into the ocean old man. Why are you doing that?"

"To make a difference," replied the man.

'Surely," said the boy, with thousands of starfish all over the beach what possible difference could you make?"

The man smiled knowingly as he reached for yet another starfish. As he tossed it far from the shore, he said,"It makes a difference to this one, son - it makes a difference to this one.'

The boy left the old man and thought about his words. As he walked along the -beach, once again alone, he began picking up objects - tossing them into the sea. However, instead of sea shells this time, they were starfish. The boy was returning them to their home.

He learned a powerful lesson that day. He discovered that he too could make a difference.

ntasa....Instead of boycotting FB, how about banning the Internet??? In that way nothing will upset you. If you find something that upsets you on the TV, boycott the TV also, and the list goes on. If you gets upset with your friend, boycott him/her so he/she don't upset you.

My goodness...when will you grow up? If it upsets you, then don't read/watch/listen to it. If you are really into boycotting it, go to the Ministry and propose it, rather than spreading your word in the Internet, where all your upsets began. They have banned pornographic websites because it upsets everyone by it's immorality. You want action, go to the Ministry and ask them to ban the FB...see how many people will get upset and they'll then ask you to be boycotted. :P

Isn't it Ironic? What if i say you upset me with your words, should i ask everyone to boycott you?

the world itself is proving it everyday ..

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court Wednesday ordered authorities to block Facebook temporarily over a competition encouraging users to post caricatures of the Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) on the social networking site.

The depiction of any prophet is strictly prohibited in Islam as blasphemous and Muslims across the world staged angry protests over the publication of satirical cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed in European newspapers in 2006.

Controversy erupted in the conservative Muslim country last month when a Facebook user set up a page called "Draw Mohammed Day", inviting people to send in their caricatures of the Muslim prophet on May 20.

The move angered thousands of young people and Muslim faithful in Pakistan, unleashing an online campaign and isolated protests that grabbed the government's attention and the controversial page was blocked on Tuesday.

But a group of lawyers went a step further Wednesday and petitioned the court to order a blanket ban on Facebook in Pakistan.

Justice Ejaz Chaudhry of the Lahore High Court directed the Pakistan Telecommunications Authority (PTA) to block Facebook until May 31, when the court will open a detailed hearing into the case.

The PTA Director told the court the government has already blocked the particular link. About complete ban, he said internet services could face problems if the complete website was banned.

However, the court ordered complete ban till May 31.

A large number of religious clerics, students and lawyers were present in the courtroom.

ntasa you should just be ignoring what offends you. You can never make internet a politically correct platform.

As for why European countries don't treat the cartoonists with the same laws that they apply to Nazis, well the cartoonists haven't killed anyone yet.

ntasa: what does this have to do with wikipedia?

By ntasa• 19 May 2010 15:43

Laws against Holocaust denial

Holocaust denial is illegal in a number of European countries. In addition, the European Union has issued a directive to combat racism and xenophobia, which makes provision for member states criminalising Holocaust denial, with a maximum prison sentence of between one and three years.

Also, the Council of Europe's 2003 Additional Protocol to the Convention on Cyber Crime, concerning the prosecution of acts of a racist and xenophobic nature committed through computer systems includes an article entitled Denial, gross minimisation, approval or justification of genocide or crimes against humanity, although this does not have the status of law.

Of the countries that ban Holocaust denial, a number (Austria, Germany, Hungary, and Romania) were among the perpetrators of the Holocaust, and many of these also ban other elements associated with Nazism, such as Nazi symbols

2 All.

plz note WHILE

I'm Against all Racism, All bigoted Fanatism, All hatred in the Name of Religion, All death threat threads, Websites praising genocide (including holocaust), All links, talks, comments in anyway demeaning, maligning or making fun of any religion no matter where it come from.

I reserve my right to feel and complain the pain from anyone's deliberate or un-intentional provocative & disgraceful acts against my religion. Whether its a cartoonists or commentors or whoever.

Such things are normally done in the name of EDUCATION, to NORMALIZATION OF SOCIETIES and FREEDOM.

I am not saying, this act is bad and that act is OK.

I am saying, ALL SUCH THINGS ARE BAD .. that hurt feelings of a significant living beings of this world (if you care).

instead of joining hands, .. you all are justifying (calling me hypocrite) that its "OK" ..you are one insignificant fool to call for boycott; look there are other sites against others, they don't complaint .. so why don't u fight for them with us first.

well, I am with you in the first place. let's fight against all such links, threads and stopp supporting online stinking plague.

I know i'm talking too a wall / yes, but just thought may be there are some sensible guys with a kind heart and soul, who regardless of their religion, color or culture, condemn such atrocity, unjust act of humility against a religion .. which will only increase hatred and tension in this world.

ntasa I am sorry but you are being hypocritical right now. There are thousands of Anti-Jews pages on the internet, maybe in Millions.

You will find over a thousand threads on QL itself in which Hinduism is being made fun of in the worst kind of way.

Neo-Nazis are also prospering in cyber space and one quick search on google will show you hundreds of thousands of pages as well.

Did you get upset over them?

By Olive• 19 May 2010 15:21

The "perpetrators" are responding to death threats issued to two cartoonists that in no way represented the Prophet Mohammed or his likeness in a bad way, but even so were bullied by Islamist websites and death threats to change their program.

But I'm sure you knew that.

By ntasa• 19 May 2010 15:18

wikipeda

They've agreed to remove caricatures/cartoons of our Holy Prophet, once there are enough votes.

there were voting, online spams and so many things in the name of freedom of speech, but still you find caricaturs on wikipedia.

Obviously, the perpetrator are having henious and wickid intentions behind that act of moral emptiness.

will you allow something, anything that hurts feelings of 1.7billion muslims,

while you prosecute someone with life imprisonment, if he hurt feelings of less than 10million jews.

isn't it hypocracy and double standard ?
