Robots VS Humans

The 56-year-old Moravec. Born in Kautzen, Austria, and raised in Montreal, he has been pushing the envelope on robotics theory and experimentation for the past 35 years, first as the graduate student at Stanford University who created the "Stanford Cart," the first mobile robot capable of seeing and autonomously navigating the world around it (albeit very slowly).

Only recently have desktop computers arrived that can deliver the raw processing muscle of a spider or a guppy (about one billion instructions per second). "At guppy-level intelligence," he explains, "I thought we could manage 3-D mapping and create a robot that could get around pretty well without any special preparation of its environment."

"We don't need a lot of Einsteins to do this; we need a lot of engineers working diligently to make little improvements and then test them out in the marketplace," Moravec insists. And that, he says, will ultimately lead to robots becoming vastly more intelligent and adaptable than we are.

i wasnt talking about satellites, i was talking about a spaceship which then actually used toeven capture all the informations about mars. ofcourse , it dint have its own inteligence to do it, it was controled.

now since it was controled to a specific route to reach and com back , that data could be saved and used again in just 1 button away or even senses(sensational home automation system: its about controling ur home electronic appliances buy just thinking, it operates with a couple of cables attached to your head).

now would u call that artificial inteligence?

like i sayed , wat if they were given a master operational command of difusing the ability to take any more cammands after the war begins?

the simple 1 and 0 state of operation will not work anymore.

what if they weren't made dependent on solar power and normal charged electrtic generators or batterys? have u heard of dynamos , dynamos charges the substitutional power source while it is already in action utilizing the main power source ,example : Rechargable batteries and reverse the act again and again

would it be possible?

There's a big difference between a satellite that can take pictures based on orders and an autonomus vehicle that can think for itself and figure out it's own next step.

It's easy to build something that will react in way A to stimulus X. It's intelligence that can work out how to react when the stimulus is not pre-agreed

"just navigate a road or a dirt track with dosens of laptop"

what about the regular phone sized gprs system ...it does the same thing plus have 3D Map Functionality too, then whats the dosen of laptops & sensors used for?

Nasa has already constructed spaceships which could take the whole worlds picture from every angle possible.

Moravec constructed his first robot at age 10 out of tin cans, batteries, a motor and lights; as a child, deeply affected by science fiction, especially the writings of A. E. van Vogt and Arthur C. Clarke.

Predicts that by 2040 faster processing will enable robots to become self-aware and experience emotions.

@ salax85

what if the robots were programmed not to follow humans instructions any mo ..??

adding a point, computers can store more activities & emotions called (artificial intelligence) then a human.

I think we are a long way off, the US Army have their challenges for autonomus delivery vehicles, these things have to carry a bank of sensors and a dozen laptops to process the data and can only just navigate a road or a dirt track. See

should the day of the terminators come we will be safe here, as fortunately, in Qatar, the multi million dollar robots will have been maintained and serviced by the 'local agency' and will therefore breakdown after about two days

"After the drastic effects of Terminator 3, the story continues as John Connor and soon to be wife Kate Brewster realize they must create a resistance organization with Earth's remaining survivors against the army of robots slowly being built up by Skynet. As they are building this resistance, one survivor happens to be a traitor in disguise, and has a secret that nobody would ever come to suspect."

Now I want it to be 2009 already.
