Russia gives 10 MiG fighters to Lebanoon

Should the Big Dog be vary ?????????????????

The Times..

The MiG29 Fulcrum fighters would be provided free to Lebanon under an agreement on military-technical assistance, the head of Russia’s defence cooperation service said.

He said that Moscow was also in talks to supply Beirut with heavy armour, adding that supplies of such weaponry were “now possible after the situation in this nation has stabilised”.

He said: “We view the Lebanese army as the main guarantor of this nation’s stability, therefore the armed forces of this country must be strengthened.” The deal followed a meeting in Moscow between Anatoly Serdyukov, the Defence Minister, and Elias Murrhis, his Lebanese counterpart. Mr Serdyukov said that Russia had received a detailed list of armaments sought by Lebanon.

The MiG29s, one of Russia’s best fighter jets, will provide considerable additional firepower for the Lebanese air force, which currently has only five outdated Hawker Hunter jets and 16 helicopters.

The gift is certain to strengthen Russian influence in the Middle East as Moscow seeks to restore a position that was lost with the collapse of the Soviet Union.

The agreement is likely to prompt concern in Israel and the United States, given the continuing power and influence of the Islamic militant group Hezbollah in Lebanon. Ria-Novosti news agency reported that Lebanese officials were also seeking tanks, antitank rockets, air defence systems and helicopters.

Russia is already a major weapons supplier to neighbouring Syria, which is keen to acquire the latest MiG29s and was reported to be seeking the latest Sam S300 air defence missiles earlier this year.

I thought the Exocet is a froggie misile..Saw a two seater Mig 29 at the Farnborough Air Show once.. Superb plane..

It's now long in the tooth and has primarily been replaced by the Sukhoi Su-27..

Tom Cruise was great , but i liked Meg Ryan better..

and it seems recruitment agencies are head hunting military pilolts for the Lebanese army.

guys. you are discussing the issue without knowing the purpose of those fighters. let aside if we will accept the gift. the Fulcrums will be used for fighting forest fires.

here is the story. last year there was a huge battle with terrorists who had a stronghold in north Lebanon. The army was in bad need for bombers. we have the hawker hunters of 1955 but they were out of service (expired). so the engineers used the gazelles which were used to fight forests fires. fitted it with Mirage F1 bomb lauchers and used 900 lbs bombs that were supposed to be used by the hawker hunters. the result we converted the helicopters to bombers and lost the fire fighting heliopters

The last time that the US F-14 engage the Mig29 in aerial combat are store as urban legends for training purposes.

The story is; Three US F-14 Tomcat engaging in full combat film footage against 10, Mig29 carrying Exocet missiles aimed at one of the navy super carriers of the coast of Lybia.

The dogfight lasted only 15 minutes. The score was 6, Mig29 shutdown and one F-14 pilot had to eject in mid flight, because both engines got shot out and lost power and hydraulics.

The American aviator is well know through the famous school of top gun training and all the local whore houses.

His name is Tom cruise.

Pretty similar I think..

The Indians have an advantage that they actually manufacture MIGs now and also have expertise from Israel, so perhaps they can enhance the avionics and the weapons systems..

Pakistan is building the fighters using Chinese airframes..

You just can't give somebody modern technology if they don't know how to use it properly.

Wait, are you talking about computers or fighter jets?

Am I missing something here ??

I said Israel airforce against Arab Airforces....

By Intelligent• 19 Dec 2008 04:01

If you are so sure Israel Air Force is so good then you should read this:

Yom Kippur War

During the war 16 PAF pilots volunteered to go to the Middle East in order to support Egypt and Syria but by the time they arrived, Egypt had already been pushed into a ceasefire. Syria remained in a state of war against Israel. Eight (8) PAF pilots started flying out of Syrian Airbases; they formed the A-flight of 67 Squadron at Dumayr Airbase. The Pakistani pilots flew Syrian MiG-21 aircraft conducting CAP missions for the Syrians. Flt. Lt. A. Sattar Alvi became the first Pakistani pilot, during the Yom Kippur War, to shoot down an Israeli Mirage in air combat.[5][6] He was honored by the Syrian government.[7] Other aerial encounters involved Israeli F-4 Phantoms; Pakistan Air Force did not lose a single pilot or aircraft during this war. The Pakistani pilots stayed on in Syria until 1976, training Syrian pilots in the art of air warfare.

Should know the facts before you talk.

Happy Independence Day.

Usually in cases like this, Technical support and training are part of the deal.. There is also the issue of spare parts etc..

Lebanese pilots will probably go to Russia for training prior to delivery..

too bad for lebanon.. in syria there are russian pilits and other military staff, who can teach syrians to use MIGs and other weapon...there are no russians in lebanon, and lebanese are not going to ask syrians for help.. so what lebanese will do with these MIGs?

now syria and lebanon can fight on the higher level..instead of disarming them, they give more and more weapon.. saaaad..

Considering the lebanese Airforce only has five Hawker Hunter jets, I think they'll have to provide trainers.... or get them from Syria.

I thought you were talking about the useless Major General Lloyd Fredendall, whose army was over run by Rommel in Africa and Monty had to save his neck.

Eisenhour replaced him and brought in Patton to take command and take on Gerry..

What is a Mig compare to a f-16f3?

Big target practice for the F-16....Cold war era relics...

Is not the plane, but the pilot who makes the plane and the technology behind it, being use in real combat situation. They could give them 50 planes and still no match for the Israeli Air Force.
