Strong dusty winds will lash Qatar for the next 24 hours, the weather office said.

According to weather office sources, Qatar’s northern areas experienced strong winds of 28-30 knots. Al Khor recorded winds of 39 knots around noon.

Ras Laffan and Shamal also experienced heavy winds in the past 24 hours.

“The speciality of the ongoing winds is that its speed is almost the same in both inshore and offshore,” said a forecaster. It is observed that the wind speed inshore is slightly more than what is usually experienced offshore, the official added.

The Met office also said the sandstorm will reduce visibility to about 2 to 4km.

Visibility will be very poor at high seas, the forecaster said. Fishermen have been advised to stay ashore in the next 48 hours.

Meanwhile, the Security and Patrols Department in Shamal distributed more than 1,000 dust masks to motorists in the area yesterday.

They also cautioned motorists against driving at high speeds during the dusty conditions.

They are expecting high winds during these two days from North West at the speed of 22 knots. There will be high seas too. Those who are planning to go fishing & swimming, suggest you skip these two days & try the bath tub or swimming pool.

Cheers !!

I hate referring to things ive only heard, BUT, this is whats going around the local grape vine which They heard on the news...Ok so here goes,

It appears that this is not your run of the mill regular sand storms indigineous to our region.

The one headed here in full throttle appears to have been caused by some 'renovating work' US troops have undergone in Iraq, resulting with several TONS of fine sand lifted up in arms and headed towards our respiratory tracts.

Bon Apetite Folks!

I wonder why many people take the opportunity to call in sick over something like this... It's nothing actually. Used to it, the annual haze from neighbouring Indonesia and last year's sandstorms.
