say yes for walking !
Walking has always been part of my life .
WE used to live around one and a half kilometre from the school and would walk there and back daily with my brothers and friends .
It used to be a pure delight for us : we either used to stroll along the main street of the green belt or explored the old town's zig-zag streets .There were several way to school and every and each was fun .
For this reason or other daily walking is a need of my every day life .
The other day I walked to the hospital from our home .It was great .The weather was nice .Birds were singing ,my spirit was high , my homesickness disappeared .Cheering the life – I stepped on the zebra crossing at the big junction near the hospital .Suddenly a Qatari looking four wheeler speeded towards me trying to hit me or just to scare me to death .
I escaped safe and sound .And I will keep up walking in this country despite the snob living here .
At the same time I wonder what we could do for the right of pedestrians and cyclists of this country .Have you got any idea ?
The lack of ventilation indoors concentrates air pollution where people often spend the majority of their time. Radon (Rn) gas, a carcinogen, is exuded from the Earth in certain locations and trapped inside houses. Researchers have found that radon gas is responsible for over 1,800 deaths annually in the United Kingdom.[citation needed] Building materials including carpeting and plywood emit formaldehyde (H2CO) gas. Paint and solvents give off volatile organic compounds (VOCs) as they dry. Lead paint can degenerate into dust and be inhaled. Intentional air pollution is introduced with the use of air fresheners, incense, and other scented items. Controlled wood fires in stoves and fireplaces can add significant amounts of smoke particulates into the air, inside and out. Indoor pollution fatalities may be caused by using pesticides and other chemical sprays indoors without proper ventilation.
Carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning and fatalities are often caused by faulty vents and chimneys, or by the burning of charcoal indoors. 56,000 Americans died from CO in the period 1979-1988.[citation needed] Chronic carbon monoxide poisoning can result even from poorly adjusted pilot lights. Traps are built into all domestic plumbing to keep sewer gas, hydrogen sulfide, out of interiors. Clothing emits tetrachloroethylene, or other dry cleaning fluids, for days after dry cleaning.
Though its use has now been banned in many countries, the extensive use of asbestos in industrial and domestic environments in the past has left a potentially very dangerous material in many localities. Asbestosis is a chronic inflammatory medical condition affecting the tissue of the lungs. It occurs after long-term, heavy exposure to asbestos from asbestos-containing materials in structures. Sufferers have severe dyspnea (shortness of breath) and are at an increased risk regarding several different types of lung cancer. As clear explanations are not always stressed in non-technical literature, care should be taken to distinguish between several forms of relevant diseases. According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), these may defined as; asbestosis, lung cancer, and mesothelioma (generally a very rare form of cancer, when more widespread it is almost always associated with prolonged exposure to asbestos).
Biological sources of air pollution are also found indoors, as gases and airborne particulates. Pets produce dander, people produce dust from minute skin flakes and decomposed hair, dust mites in bedding, carpeting and furniture produce enzymes and micron-sized fecal droppings, inhabitants emit methane, mold forms in walls and generates mycotoxins and spores, air conditioning systems can incubate Legionnaires' disease and mold, and houseplants, soil and surrounding gardens can produce pollen, dust, and mold. Indoors, the lack of air circulation allows these airborne pollutants to accumulate more than they would otherwise occur in nature.
i do admire people being able to use treadmill . Even if i was payed for it i would not be able to use it -as i find it very boring .Walking is just the opposite for me - it is a pure joy - and exciting activity .
Is the air inside our room is better than the one in the street ? I have heard that the air inside is " tired " - and even in the polluted street one can get more freshness .
and that at dawn the air is pure even at the cities . Have you ever tried

The aspire is where the flame was during the Games. Go to the road between Villaggio & Hyatt plaza. Go in there and drive around. Park your car anywhere and walk.

Alexa, you should try walking around the Aspire area which is nice. And exhaust fumes low.

Love is the answer...
I really enjoy walking too but you have to be very aware of the cars and make sure that the roads are clear before you cross. The Corniche is a nice and safe place to walk but does get a bit crowded in the evenings.
with all my respect u know wut is my advice .. there is always a phrase says "Try to cope rather than complaining"

Unfortunately, it is not an option for us to run errands on foot here. You have to take a car to get somewhere to walk.
You're from Europe. That tells me it was a major shocker to find it was not possible for you to walk or bike either. Unlike Europe, you worship bikes and roads are well planned to accomodate that and walking as well, for you, your kids and pets too! Let alone ramps for people with special needs.
Sorry dear, but you will sure get used to it. I compensate by taking the stairs ,when I can, and a daily walk on the Cornich. Weather is fabulous now compared to boiling humid summer.
You know, every place has the good and the bad. It’s enough to know that it’s a very safe country for a girl to walk by herself. Just be serious enough to shy away fools here and there.

i might sound greedy -but my wish is to walk inside the city safely -and not only in some areas kept for pedestrians .
just like in my country .
i know that walking is not so natural in every country . but i think it should be .
i avoid the corniche on weekdays morning . it is deserted and some guys know it ...
Walking is part of my life as well. One reason I love this country, is that I have the Cornich (sea side) where I can freely walk at anytime of the day and also at night.
I just avoid Friday nights because of crowdedness. Well, I walked this Friday..:)) I had to pause many times to avoid crunching little ones that are no bigger than 200 centimeters off the ground and they're riding tiny bikes too..:)) They are very cute though.
About crossing streets, be careful, even when you use the pedestrian lights, watch out and look well before crossing the road.
Best of luck
Salam
try corniche...it's safe...
thank you for the idea - but i live far from there . what i miss here is the freedom of choice .if i wish walking to get here or there - i can nt many times .
in my country it is normal to walk or ride a bike . there are sidewalks and traffic lights in large number .
here i miss this . for example i live only 15 minute walk from the sea . but i can not walk there - because i should cross a very busy road and there are no traffic lights at all .
when at home i tell my friends about that -simpl they can not understand it why a rich country like qatar can not afford more sidewalks or zebra crossing .
If you like walking you should go around the area at the Aspire. They have walking paths there and best of all no cars. Park your car anywhere around there and start walking. If you dont know where to go, go to the road between Villagio & Hyatt Plaza. It is all over there.
