Dubai: A Qatari shaikh will spend four years in a Dubai jail for smuggling, possessing and consuming hashish, ruled a court on Thursday. The Dubai Court of First Instance also fined the shaikh Dh30,000 and ordered that the 12.85 grams of hashish which were confiscated in his possession be seized. He will be deported after serving his sentence. The accused had earlier asked the court to dismiss his case almost a month after his brother's case was dismissed. The Public Prosecution charged him with bringing in and possessing 12.85 grams of hashish and consuming tetra-hydro cannabinol (THC), an active component of hashish which was found in his urine. The shaikh, who pleaded not guilty before the court, asked the judge to disregard his confession during police questioning because he was misled by his interrogators.
He claimed that the law enforcement procedures were unlawfully carried out against him because the anti-narcotics police failed to conduct a thorough investigation about the tip-off.
He argued that the seized drugs did not belong to him as the place where he was staying was used by a number of people. He added no drugs were found in his possession at the time of his arrest. He asked the court to acquit him or dismiss the case because the case was outside the court's jurisdiction. The brothers arrived in Dubai on December 14 and were detained in the early hours of December 16.

If using is a crime to be treated in this manner then believe me its awful.
In my opinion, such people are in fact weak from inside and punishing them for this can lead them to an ignorant life, which is similar to death.
Rules should not be changed for a “Sheikh” but for the humanity.

If he traffics the drug or deals in that he should definitely be punished, but if he is just a drug addict then he must be treated medically instead of being punished for his weakness…

I feel sorry for the Sheikh. Why doesnt the Qatar Government do anything for him?

How can they put a sheikh in a jail with common people. He is a Sheikh so he should get special treatment, send him to Guantanmo.
