Sheikh flies Lamborghini to UK for oil change

OK, so it's a SUN Newspaper report, but .....

http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/article1493291.ece

A RICH Arab sent his Lamborghini on a 6,500-mile round trip to Britain for a service.

The £190,000 supercar was put on a scheduled flight from Qatar to Heathrow – then flown BACK after the oil check.

Money was no object as the flight would have cost the owner – thought to be a Sheikh – around £20,000.

The move sparked fury from green campaigners.

An airport worker said: “This car doesn’t have a carbon footprint – more of a crater.”

The overall cost of sending the Lamborghini to London for the oil change would have cost more than £23,000.

His black-and-gold supercar costs £3,552 to service at an approved dealer – on top of the £20,000 to freight from Qatar to Britain.

The Murciélago LP640 – driven by Batman in movie The Dark Knight – arrived from the Middle Eastern country on Friday.

It cleared customs and was trucked to specialist mechanics in London for the service.

On Monday it was flown back 3,250 miles to the oil-rich state where it was collected by the owner.

A cargo handler at Heathrow blasted the car’s environmental damage.

He said: “It would have been far more efficient to fly mechanics out there.”

Half of the stories published in the Gulftimes is wrong. One day tey ll publish sum news and then the second day sum official ll cum out n issue a statement saying it was all wrong. dont read Gulf times, its always full of ppl from kerala who have died n there bodies r being flown bck to their home country. as if no one else dies n ppl from kerala only die in this country. others die too. y dont they publish tht. Better stop reading a newspaper tht publishes wrong info. The peninsula has more news n worthy news. Atleast their first page makes sum sense.

salil the source is The Sun, relax.

I take it the car is not so hot if its been in the garage several times for repairs :)

I am working in Dana Motors, the dealer for Bentley and Lamborghini Cars. This is just a publication stunt. This particular car been in our garage for several times for repairs. If anybody want the proof call 4600910..

I am ashamed of Gulf Times, a reputed news paper, involved in such fabricated propaganda...

The report was fake, the car was not send for a oil change. but it was actually flown in for the owner, who was holidaying in UK> n this thing is very normal. esp central LOndon. When u drive thru there, u ll c lots of arab guys with their pricey cars btu with Qatari license plates, its a sense of prideof them. n let the environmentalist scream as much as they want, when these rich countries dump their garbage in the poor countries, no one shouts environment disaster. their countries shoud stay clean n the others shud becum dirty n polluted for them.

I see no problem. He wants his car serviced, or where he's at. He has the money and time. I service my (poor) car at the (local) dealer. That’s a waste of money and time. Unnecessary splurge, where oil could be changed around the corner for cents, they say!

It's all relative, very relative.

Salam

By ICGURU• 31 Jul 2008 12:26
ICGURU

I personally don't understand the problem. First they state that it is an environmental concern and then state "it would have been far more efficient to fly mechanics out there". How would it be any less of an environmental concern if they flew mechanics instead of a car? There are thousands of flights a day; one more to fly a car isn't going to have any environmental effects.

I am sure all of us could come up with a million ways we would use that money; but the fact is it is his money and if he wants to spend it shipping a car for an oil change – so what?

But I have to take the whole story with a pinch of salt... the Lamborghini is an Italian car, if at all anyone sends a car that far for a service, he would send it to Italy... not the UK.

My guess is that the Qatari would have flown the car to the UK for his holiday (which is a common practise in affluent circles, wasteful nonetheless) and got it serviced while it was there...

The story is a bit stretched I feel...

However, in these days of paranoia about carbon footprints, this item was newsworthy.
