Shorts = Underwear?

Ducks
By Ducks

well...I was just checking what kind of clothes I need for Qatar, and found that

"Shorts are equal to underwear for Qataris and it's recommended to wear long pants."

Is this true? No Shorts in Qatar? I mean...no Shorts while it's more than 30°C??? :)

If you are wearing shorts (of any length) while walking on the street, or inside a small shop/supermarket, you'll get a lot of unwelcome stares. Men whistle at me when I wear jeans and a baggy t-shirt!

But nobody cares about shorts and sleeveless anymore when you are in a shopping mall or other places where people are used to seeing Western expats.

Good man Ducks!

I can't believe how much research you've done and how much time you've spent on QL just for a weeks visit!

By Ducks• 29 Apr 2008 10:12

that's why I was wondering...while in another country, I want to adjust to the local culture and not behaving as if it was my home...

It does my head in when I see an expat wearing totally inappropriate clothes in Qatar. I feel embarrassed to be an expat in the same country as them.

Mens underwear here are long lose white cotton trousers down to their ankles!

maybe the clause is refering to boxer shorts, or maybe those old shorts above the knee, which nowadays makes u look gay when you wear it.

knee length, or a little below knee length, basketball or 6 pocket shorts would be fine.
