Sick of these stores!

I am pretty much sick of the mentality of the store owners here in Qatar.
In Qatar wherever you go, it is a god damn conspiracy , whenever you want to buy something "not mainstream brand", doesn't matter if it is pet's cages ,or home accessories and stuff, almost all products are Chinese.
For example I bought a cage for my new fancy mouses, the cage itself is small-medium size with very cheap plastic stuff, it cost me 150QR and only a discount of 10 QR.
While if you go anywhere in the world , or Arab countries it would cost only around 40QR.
Everything is Chinese and they sell it for x2 or x3 the original price, and they are cheeky enough to give only a 5QR discount.
This is absolutely why Qatar is expensive, it is because of the people who are exploiting it...

Well, I can't change something which is already set in your mind. The only other suggestion I can give, is to just be cool and relax.

We can rail against a propensity of a certain national, but at the end of the day. You can't change what is already there.

Have good night and don't forget to feed you fancy rats. Or they might just escape from the "Made in China" cage and chew on your clothes.

@ Blosted - I have to comment on your post against my better judgement.

These so called racist, you are talking about are offered salaries that you are not willing to accept, even in your wildest dreams. They are crammed in accommodations, because they can't afford their own rooms. Many of them are, in fact, exploited by its owners.

Most of their salaries are sent to their families for a better life. While they live here in almost abject poverty; eating QR 1/2 kubus or chappati and whose form of entertainment are walking, watching free or pirated movies and loitering outside.

Compared to you, whose one form of entertainment is raising fancy rats. Your pet's food might even be more expensive than what they usually eat.

Just be cool and just look at this in another perspective. Instead of thinking that they are duping you by giving you small discounts. Consider their extra profit as an act of kindness, for those who are disadvantaged and deprived in this country.

Okay let me tell you why they WON'T get any better salaries ,even thought they can get it.

Because most of them will just grab the salaries after couple of years and get back to where they came from.

Let's analyse that again, what would you call it ?

I mean before they even come here they always kept in mind that they WILL get back.

I mean India has a very high GDP, so instead of you 1 BILLION people fighting the people who owns all the money in your country, you (hundreds of thousands of you), go to someone else's country with a purpose of GETTING back.

I mean many are living in Qatar for long years, have they ever thought of helping the community (of course not judging everybody).

So let's follow your logic, give them a double or triple raise, in 5 years the country will go empty , and thank you O'grateful wise people!

@chamilajayasekara well yeah, I have the right to complain when assholes try to take over someone's country and screw it up for not only the locals ,but to everyone who doesn't look or speak like them! If you do not agree with me,and want the con artists ,economical abusers to prevail in the society ,I only would say you are very welcomed to leave.

Yes, Qatar was a very peaceful country until people start messing it!

@qatarisun I know ,really, I am sorry it is just some people's comments are too stupid !

@FathimaH, I think from now on I will be shopping online, at least I won't get ripped by people, and at least I will get something of quality for equally or even less.

I hate racists, I hate ungrateful ,beneficial and manipulative people!

In fact this has become my latest pet hate too. Low quality stuff, made in China for pennies, being sold for ridiculously high prices, without much alternatives! I have no qualms to pay a price for things that are worth it, in fact that is money well spent, but to have to fork out a small fortune only to have the said product pack up in weeks is a criminal waste of money to say the least.

But yes, I guess it's us consumers too to be blamed. We still buy em, cos not all of us have the required resources and or time to bother with online shopping!

oh dear..........stop nagging about small things.Qatar is not an expensive country to compare to ur country.Ur country the goverments are ripping off all ur money with a big word call "TAX" here u get a tax free salary. all u earn u get to keep it.

And for the second complain yes small shop keepers try to rip off ur money more not cos' of your skin....they know u guys get more salary all the time cos' of your passport.when we work in one of your companies and even if we do the same as you do we get half of your salary.U guys never complain about that...........don't you.......

SO stop nagging about small things and be happy here.......this is a very peacefull nice country........few may be bad......but they are not racists......BTW how is your little mouse doing.

Okay so because the guy has more experience and kind of DESERVES his higher pay, and they give him a higher price ,because he is "white" still doesn't make them racists? you are undermining your own argument here!

Well I got news for you, charging x2 or x3 the price of a regular cheap thing to people is NOT business it is a rip off PERIOD

Okay, if this is how shitty they want to play it? why don't Qatar just kick all of them back home and we going to see how they will be "paid".

As I told you , Qatar has been kind enough to harbor hundreds of thousands and even more than one million people and provided them with a lifestyle and actual roof over their head.

If they going to come here, and rip everyone off and get back, then I say fuck them, (following your logic of course).

but it's not that Qatar expensive because they sell the goods for the high price.. don't you think it's the other way around? This is a market, and every single thing has its own market price. If you had a choice, you would go to the next store and would by it for 40.. but there is NO next store, so you are left with no choice..

Why the would sell it for 40QAR if you need it and you will buy it for 150? They also have to buy some goods for themself, and they will also pay 150 instead of 40.. as for being racists, I also disagree. They know that "white skin" dude gets paid higher than fellow form sub-continent. So they use this fact to increase profit of their business as well. And again it’s up to you to buy it or not. If you want to have "fancy mouses" (what the hell THAT mean? :):)), you can afford fancy-priced cages, I suppose..

Chinese items are found everywhere. Whilst I agree that the markups are unusually high here, a cage would probably cost the same in the UK.

The Indian shopkeepers rip off the Qataris and the Westerners, sorry it's a fact. They do it based on race. Hence racism.

@tahsinmim have you read up on "logic" yet? he did not literally mean they knew he was Aussie, but they knew he was white.

Just please do me a favor, can you try harder?

GOD DAMN IT! it amazes how imbecile people can get some times!

Did I complain about the price of the cage? I generally complained about the REASON that Qatar is getting expensive, it is because people are exploiting it!

Just please....read twice and try to use "logic" next time...

@QDCLover YEAH! I completely agree, and they won't give you even the REAL price, because they know we won't debate with them because we do not speak their language, bastards.

In Jordan I could get a cage like that for 20-30QR.

In Jordan at least the shop keepers are decent enough, even if the starting price is 50% more, they EXPECT you to ask for at least 50% discount then the bargain goes from there.

but here ,too many greedy blood sucking rats around.

Also the shop keepers are racist. For Indians they give the real price but when they see my nice white Aussie skin they try and jack the price up 200%! Racists!

@tahsin yeah I did purchase it, but I HAD to, because It was the same day I got my mouses, and I needed a house for them, you can't leave a mouse wander in the house or you might never find him.

@QDCLover yeah! it seems so ! I guess it will be cheaper even with the transportation costs!

@Spock , but here the country is the victim and people blame her for it!

By anonymous• 8 Nov 2012 17:19

Well life is a bitch, don't buy from them. Import what you need.

Yes, that's called "business"! Didn't I say that in another thread: "Business needs victims"?
