I think silambam is the South Indian martial arts which uses a big stick. If it is, I once saw it practised by this guy (with a long ponytail) who could swing it with such force that it made a really loud swishing sound. His movements almost made it look like a dance done with great strength. Is that Silambam, Kannan or is that another martial art?
