So where are the Arabs

The UN agency for Palestinian refugees yesterday called on Arab nations to give it more money, saying a lack of funds was endangering its work supporting Palestinians scattered across their region.

Arab leaders regularly condemn Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territories BUT GIVE LESS THAN 5% OF THE FUNDS the agency uses to alleviate one of the world’s longest running refugee crises, according to the agency’s figures.

The UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), which provides food, medical, educational and other assistance, says it is now cash-strapped.

UNRWA’s biggest contributors are Western governments, which provide the agency with some 95% of its funds. Saudi Arabia now chairs UNRWA’s Advisory Commission, the first time an Arab donor holds the position.

'maybe they should just co-ordinate their efforts'...

Many NGOs do not wish to be associated with the UN because of their unwavering bias towards Israel.

Corruption within Palestine is rife and needs to be addressed. Billions of dollars donated every year. Certain people are lining their pockets.

I'm safely assuming there are other agencies apart from UNRWA that work with the Palestinian refugees & i'm pretty sure they receive significant Arab funding, maybe they should just coordinate their efforts, that in my opinion is where the Arabs lose out to the Israelis, who despite the fact that they have no humanitarian crisis or a refugee situation receive millions from Jews around the world in support of "the state of Israel"...all negative points about Israelis/Jews notwithstanding, one thing that the Arabs & everyone else for that matter, can learn from them is how to work together for a common cause...

There is way too much suspicion, jealousy, two faceness & one upmanship amongst the Arabs currently for them to succesfully work together...if they're smart, they'll learn that art from the Israelis...sad part is it's the Palestinian refugees that end up suffering, for no fault of theirs...

whyteknight and alumnar, since the west created 100% of the problem, maybe they should pay for 100% of the solution.

what if the palestinians where not arabs? then the responsibility for the problem changes? it is the responsibility of the countries who caused the problem by supporting zionism.

tell me... which arab countries were responsible for creating israel, and i will agree that they should pay.

in any case, as people who use logic (instead of their racist ideas) here have mentioned, the arabs give much more in donations and not through the UN.

and why the hell arabs are bound to UN for paying Palestinian cause?

i'm sure most of them are paying in their own way.

It is rather naieve or even ignorant to think that the Palestinian/Israeli conflict is purely an Arab problem.

As is thinking that the UNRWA is the only way to fund Palestine.

After all, who controls the UN??? Billions upon billions are given by Gulf countries to Palestine every year. Many choose to donate in ways other than through the UNRWA.

Brain in gear before mouth in operation please.

There are two sides to every story. It is in most Arab nations' interest to keep the Palestinian issue on the boil. On the other hand, the U.N has been biased in the past in addressing the problems also.

The ones that suffer are the Palestinians..

haven't they helped Palestine enough? Why undermine the kindness of arabs based on that report? The Arabs have never waited for the UN to react at its pace to begin aid to that region.

Arabs will never help each other. They did not do it in the past, not now, and they won't in the future. It is against their nature which is greedy and cowardess according to Ibn Khaldoun, one of the greatest acknowledged Arab scientist.

Interesting. And here we always read the Arabs blaming the west for not helping the Palestinians enough, maybe they want the west to fund 100 % aid and can't stand the 5 % they are giving.
