Whatever she did, there is no reason for him to assault her. He should be prosecuted.

It's obvious that he didn't slap her. I think he intended to but ended up brushing past her hair instead. Don't know why everyone's obsessing over this, he's a dick, she's annoying for asking him relentlessly for a picture, and she's also an idiot for still taking the picture after what happened.

End of.

...Douri attacked the film festival management for putting pressure on her after she was slapped, adding that she was also asked to say she was not slapped.

“The management asked me to sign a statement saying that the video film shown on U-Tube and other sites was taken from an angle that gave the impression that Omar Sharif slapped me but that he did not,” she said.

This guy is totally out of his mind.. seems like he is suffering from some kind of psychological disorder... and the lady who got slapped had no self respect or dignity that even after the incident she smiled for the cameras ... she should have slapped him back even harder !!!

So I heard that the DTFF wanted the reporter not to take legal action against Sharif and told her not to make a fuzz about this whole thing! Can you believe it? Instead them taking a legal action, they've been asking her to keep her mouth shut! Insane !

our advise and now suing the actor.

here is the report from The Peninsula.

DOHA: The woman Egyptian actor Omar Al Sharif slapped at the Doha Tribeca Film Festival (DTFF) last week is pursuing legal action against him, Al Arabiya channel reported yesterday.

Aisha Al Douri, who was not an ordinary fan but happened to be a correspondent working for the US-owned Al Hurra TV channel, said in a phone interview aired in Dream Two, an Egyptian TV channel, that she was shocked when she was slapped by the famous actor.

Al Douri stressed she came to the festival as a reporter not as a fan and she tried hard to keep herself composed during the incident.

The 79-year-old Academy Award nominated actor who gained the limelight for his role in the classic movie ‘Lawrence of Arabia’ lashed out at the woman in Arabic, telling her, “My dear! I told you come back later! I just said that and you’re standing here. Put something in your brain!”

Moments later, Sharif turned and said sorry before the woman smiled and posed with him for a photo.

One reporter who was at the scene tweeted: “Omar Sharif just hit a woman. Very stupidly, in front of a camera.”

Douri also expressed her frustration at the festival organisers accusing them of ignoring the incident so as to avoid controversy. She said they asked her to sign a paper stating that Sharif did not exactly slap her and recommended that she should tell the audience that it looked like a slap but was not.

Many of the reporters covering the festival did not know of the incident which occurred before the showing of a classic Sharif film.

“I did not know about what happened. Around a hundred messages from friends back from France told me of the incident,” said a foreign correspondent, adding he was surprised why it was not reported by the media here.

This is not the first time Sharif has lost his cool. The actor’s heated temper dates back to 2003 when he attacked a cop in a Paris casino, and in 2007 when he pleaded no contest to misdemeanor battery for beating up a Beverly Hills Parking attendant

.. she knew very well that complaining against this guy would not have got her anywhere and may even have resulted in her being declared the guilty party.

The funny thing is that after the slap, he strikes a conversation with her and asks her "who is taking our picture ya habibty?".

By timebandit• 2 Nov 2011 18:26
timebandit

I guess she reacted at the time both professionally and to save face. And then in the cold light of day realised that she should a) have not had her photo taken with him, and b) She should have given him a piece of her mind there and then. But how would each of us have reacted in the heat of the moment? She held herself well, but the fact she had her photo taken with him, and kept smiling may work against her in a court case.

By Happy Happy• 2 Nov 2011 18:19
Happy Happy

timebandit, very true. She declared later that she was too embarrassed and opted to keep calm to save face. She was being blamed by internet bloggers for keeping so quiet about it and for still taking that picture with him. Anyway, it's an awful situation!

By timebandit• 2 Nov 2011 18:11

But she still got her photo taken with him didn't she.

By Happy Happy• 2 Nov 2011 17:46

Aisha Aldoury is not a fan, she is Al Hurra reporter. She is already pursuing legal action against him for lashing out at her and for the slap.

I'm currently involved with the festival on an official capacity. I met Omar Sherif in the lobby of the hotel he's staying at and I was carrying a pleasant conversation with him and, although despite it being embarrassingly poor, I tried to speak in an Egyptian dialect so he can understand me. Two girls from my team wanted to meet him, sisters actually from the royal family, and so I introduced them to him. One of them was particularly excited. He told us at one point that he wanted to come back to the hotel as soon as he's done with whatever he was doing that day so he can join his son for dinner upstairs at the hotel. She politely suggested to him that there are other restaurants in Qatar that he should try out. In that exact moment, out of nowhere, he literally snapped! like a completely different person. He retorted so rudely and inappropriately that she doesn't "have to exaggerate Doha", "he's been here before many times" and so she doesn't have to tell him "where to go and what to do", and that "he knows His Highness and Her Highness quite well". Out of shock, she apologized at first, but then when he kept going at it she told him firmly that he doesn't need to speak to her that way and he should speak to her respectfully, before she stormed off entirely. It was an extremely awkward situation. I even relayed it to one of the team members, who just so happens to be the Qatari guy in the video that you see standing behind Omar before he slaps the girl. I don't know if its merely a case of being old and senile, but after watching the video and seeing his track record of being physically abusive, I'm starting to think differently. I shudder to think what would have happened if he laid a hand on my friend! he would be in quite a predicament..

That was a slap.. Poor thing.. Her smile is just a cover up.. Its really embarrassing a high profile like him to do such a thing.

I agree, the smile on the lady's face was a cover up. That is humiliating and i feel her embarassment :(

She's shell shocked. The smile's a cover up as she slowly realizes what just happened (she looks like she's gonna burst into tears). The senile old man is apologetic when he realizes what just happened. By then it's too late and no one else wants a pic with the old fool. LOL! funny. She could have him for assault in the civilized world.

There's no fool like an old fool.

That was pretty rude. The fact that there are so many people around them during that time, not to mention the media people as well, he should have had more patience during that time. But then again he was old enough to get so irritated easily. But at the end of it all, it wall all to wrong. Am sorry for the lady who was just so excited to be with a showbiz personality.

i don't care what she has done, nobody is allowed to slap another person, it is a pure physical abuse and a subject for the court case. Some security staff should be around, and they should have tell her to stick the line, in civilized way.. but to slap a woman in public and to yell at her??

ok, perhaps she is acting incorrect, she is a plain ordinary woman.. nobody.. so, he as a world known star, supposed to go down to her low level?? what a jerk..

By rick05634• 28 Oct 2011 17:24

That's what made it funny. She is still smiling about it. She should have done something. Her fault for not correcting him.
