Speedsters find way to escape radars and cameras
11 July 2009
No matter which technology acquire to curb traffic violations, law-breakers have always found ways to duck the radars on the streets of Al Ain, courtesy some unscrupulous traders.
A number of motorists in Al Ain are armed with a technology which allows them to get voice or text alerts on the presence of radars ahead. However, the illegal program can be uploaded only on certain mobile phones.
Apart from the radars, the program allows motorists to detect traffic signals that have cameras fitted alongside. Several mobile shops in the Al Ain city are selling the program for Dh1,000 to Dh2,000.

In the TomTom satnav system with maps for the UK, you can 'jailbreak' the software and install all the speed cameras in the country onto your satnav. You drive around and get a pinging noise when one is coming up. It's extremely reliable and absolutely brilliant. You can even set it to tell you how many metres away it is, how fast over the limit you are going. Amazing.
Or those dukes of hazzard style 'radar detectors' that sit in the front of the cars and beep when there's a 'cop with a hairdryer' in the area..
Radar Detectors...are the same tech used in fighter planes to see if any enemy radar has locked on to the FighterPlane's flight path.
They are just detectors they cannot stop the radar from working.
But anybody who would need a radar detector to know where the speed cam would be utterly stupid.....everybody knows where radars are on their daily routes & even on new routes one can see it.....
"He said that though the radar detectors enabled motorists to avoid fixed radars on highways, the system was useless against the mobile radars. "
Well that's the same in Qatar.
I REMEMBER where all the cameras are. Guess I've save Dhs2000 already :o)
you want to outsmart? Then drive 40 K/Hr yeah!
every problem has a solution
Why you wanna make govt spend more and more on traffic rules...
can't say wasting tax payers money...
But following the speed limits is for a reason... follow it...
It is our responsibility to drive safely... lets focus more on tht.. than the Adrenalin rush to break rules now and then...

Last year at the GTEX in Dubai I saw a GPS instrument which warns us of radar. Slightly expensive. Couldnt afford it. :(
