Stolen Purses in Lulu Hypermarket
I just wanted to warn as many people as possible about a string of stolen purses from women in Lulu Hypermarket in the last 2 days. Mine was stolen from me today while my children sat in the cart a couple of meters away. While the purse itself and my id cards and passport were found later on in the rice section, my money and mobile were never recovered. I was told this was the fourth one in 2 days. No one has been charged or found. Do not leave your valuables hanging on the cart even for a moment. The other woman there had her wallet stolen from inside her bag only half an hour after me and only noticed when she saw it unzipped. This may be a trend at other shopping centers as well. Be aware.

abuamerican must have witnessed the capture of the gang scene unknowingly, i feel
I have contacted the lulu manager and here is the good news. Lulu security has already caught the criminals with the help of cctv.
it is a gang of husband wife and 13 year old daughter from an Arab country that was involved in the crime, not only in lulu but in other shopping malls as well. The family is handed over to police. Police has contacted those who have registered complaints. Please contact the airport police.
I think theft is completely wrong, however, people should take more care of their things, or what can they expect! I know it's Qatar but some people just can't resist temptation!
(I know I can, I once saw a Lamborghini left with the engine running outside a supermarket!)
By the way AbuAmerican, I doubt those guys were undercover, probably just good samaritans..
No CCTV you say... i need some extra cash ;)
its very bad if they don't have cctv camera installed
"...they need punishment, sure." I can so hear David Brent! :D
Elspamo, believe me, if you dont care if someone gets castrated, one day you'll make a mistake - needn't be theft - and they'll come for you. Same for Mallrat.
You make out like thieves are mythical evil beings from a story, and you're ideas are like dealing with dragons. It's a child's perspective.
These people are human beings who have strayed from the path; they need punishment, sure. But it's not the most anti-social practice in society; you can cause a lot more pain by sacking someone who is trying to support a family. And I don't remember many people calling for physical maiming for that.
have a think about it.
thief need to be punish ... but leaving your purse / handbag on the trolley while you go shopping is silly ...
.either these thieves were laborers or relative of winona,
.
still, they need to be punished and i say, "cutting" is one good option.
.
"what if the thief turned out to be someone barely surviving in a labour camp, sharing six to a room, unpaid for weeks on end and practically starving? Do you still think he should be castrated?"
I, personally, don't think they should be castrated. But they should definitely be put in jail or get deported. But honestly, even if they are barely surviving in a one-room apartment with their family, do you think that putting others in their position by stealing all their money is the right thing to do? These people are so greedy. They don't even care who they're stealing from. What if it's a single mother of four children that has to work two jobs a day just to feed her children? Not saying its right to steal from anyone else, but at least other people would be able to survive a little better.
Come to think of it, I don't care if these guys get castrated or not. Not that I support it though.
grrrr!!!! reminded me of my bad experience in italy last year. been a victim of pick pocket on my way to venice. grrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!

"Cut off his hand"? Are you lot nuts?
Back home if a lady left her bag for the tempting of others, not only would she be robbed but she'd be given a lecture by the thieves (aren't they thoughtful) of how silly she was to leave her bag laying around. Not that I'm calling you silly YCHikal.
I would squeeze that bag under my armpit. You just never know who has sticky fingers. Not just labourers, plenty of Winona's around doing it for kicks.

they only check if your kids eat or drink something inside the store and they keep the kids and parents in custody till you sign an official appology and undertaking not to do it again

I am in London at present and I saw a women purse been snatched by two youths in a busy high street. Before someone could do any thing the youth had disappeared. You have to be vigilant no matter where you are.. See you guys back in Doha next week. 4 weeks in the UK is too much for me..Never gonna do this again..rained almost every day.. Cant wait to see some sun and the lovely humidity...lol better than the cold rain here..lol

HE WHO DARES WINS
hey, speaking of UK... i only walked 10 minutes on the street in London, when i realized that the side pocket of my purse has been cut.. good, that i kept my wallet in a safe place.. :) so nothing has been stolen...
here you go UK.. :)
That;s the problem.. When I go home to the UK, I sometimes foirget and leave the car unlocked.. My father gets really angry.. We have to take care of our own property..
it was reported first day.. why it had to happened again on the 2nd day...
anyway, you are right on that brit, but what to do, we have been used to being carefree as we thought this place is safe.. not at all now..

The onus is on the owner to keep their belongings safe.. Not the security..
blame it on their securities.. on the first day of this incident, they should have alerted all personnel and securities.. and not to make this happen on the 2nd day..
what is happening now to Qatar?

By the way, lulu hypermarket is getting much profits compare to other supermarkets, why they can't install or produce a high tech CCTV cameras or anything to protect their business especially their loyal customers?
lets say they are in awful situation not being paid by their selfish employers & so on.Still its a crime especially in a Gulf country like this. This should not be an excuse to do such awful acts!
avoid flaunting your assets so that others are not tempted...
i dont go much to lulu hypermarket. but yes it may happen to other places as well. and sometimes my bag is unzip. i better be careful now...thanks for the post...

...and I don't have a purse anyway. ;-p

If you can only see the volume of people coming to Lulu hypermarket. You will never believe in your eyes,it seems that every house has party.Just yesterday,my friend decided to drop by to buy some stuffs. We were so surprised upon seeing that the parking lot has been fully occupied, almost both sides of the area. This incidents will worsen if the Lulu hypermarket will not make any action to it!This things should not be tolerated!!Not only one finger to cut better take off the hand!
I shop there quite often. I will be extra careful. I feel that for someone to steal from your purse, you have to be far from your trolley. It can't happen in a flick of a second.
I think we are going to see an increase in crime in Qatar. Given the massive disparity in wealth I think it is inevitable that some will turn to stealing for survival.
.cutting the roots will atleast stop one burglar from producing....
.
yes mom_me, that's the Lulu Hypermarket. the one along D-Ring (Airport Road).

Are you talking about the one (LuLu) at airport road?

this afternoon between 2-3pm, i was also in Lulu with my brother. we are finished paying our bill when one qatari lady in the next counter just shouted. her bag which she put in the counter while waiting for the grocery items to be put in her trolley was gone.
apparently, 3 people were victimized only today. who knows there could be more.
hope this will serve as warning for us to be more cautious of our belongings.

.when this thief is caught, please cut one finger for me..
.
Oh, noooo...It was one of the things I liked about Qatar-no thieves, bad luck!
