stop-over holiday for those heading west !!

For those of you who are departing Qatar, and would like to use the journey for a more interesting venture than simply flying to UK, or westwards anywhere...   why not go and visit my quiet tiny island called 'Agistri' in Greece.    We built a house there, we love it so much.

I am very proud of this place, although I don't personally own it.   There are three villages, and only 1001 persons living there - at the last count!    However, even though its small, they have lots of 'pension' type hotels and self contained apartments, some with swimming pools.    The island is only 2 klm X 3 klm, but rises out of the ocean to form a small mountain, and is named AGISTRI.    For families with small kids its great as the islanders love children and are very watchful of their wellbeing.

Flights with Qatar Airways are available direct to Athens (4 hours).    After your 'break', you can catch your onward flight to virtually anywhere.    The island is 50 minutes from the mainland (sightseeing to the Acropolis is v.simple), and is just 'behind' Aegina, a large semi-touristy island.

Getting to Agistri is very easy.     For more info on 'getting there' go to www.hotelmilos.gr/eng/usen.htm  and you'll find all the details of that particular family, together with a good map of directions how to get there.    There are plenty of other hotels for you to check out, and although you may want to book into only one, you can just book a couple of days and then wander around and get rooms anywhere else you prefer.

I'm posting this because I know that flights to anywhere - once you get to your destination -will be expensive, whereas stopping off somewhere on the way home is a great way to save on airfares, and get a holiday at the same time.   Having lots of kids of my own, I'm an expert on saving money this way!!

Warning:  Milos village is the 'quiet end' and 'Skala' is louder and kept for the tourists.  I prefer Milos.  Its a 25 minute slow meander between villages.  Hire a bike if walking is difficult!

Of course, you could also do this on the way back to Doha too.
