Strange users in QL !!!!!!!!

home.biz
By home.biz

Guys, for the last many months I’ve been noticing that there are many new or old users of QL who just post any question, forum and classifieds to know about contact details of certain company, their location, timings, fees VISIT VISAS, jobs and GOD knows what other crap but they just post it without making a little effort of searching in GOOGLE or other search engines prior to posting them in QL. Also, it is becoming very common mistake that users are posting their requirements in wrong section of QL.
This leads to duplication & excessive data entry on same topic in QL which makes QL very much messy, overcrowded and boring. As more and more persons are arriving in Qatar the more useless questions/topic is being raised in QL. Other users along with me just keep on telling them to search either QL, GOOGLE before posting your requirements but it’s getting useless on every passing days.
Are these new/old users are so dumb or illiterate that they don’t know which information can be find out from which source. Is the current summer heat of Qatar is boiling their brains out.
Anyhow, I’m providing them some basic information and I request them that please take full advantage of this site and make it more interesting to read & visit by not posting same questions/forum topics again and again. Informations are as follows:
http://www.qtel.com.qa/WhteAdvPg.do
Description: Browse Category for your required company’s number. Most of the numbers will be available. Otherwise, use WHITE PAGES on the left side of this screen where you can either post partial name or full name of any person/company/ministries to know about their numbers. TRY IT AND YOU WILL FIND OUT and uptil now I haven’t failed to find out the numbers of any entity in this WHITE PAGE section. Very very informative for all!!!
www.qatcom.com
http://www.qataronlinedirectory.com/
http://www.iloveqatar.net/
http://www.google.com.qa {to search anything available around the world}
.
At the end, I would say that MODs play their effective part to delete any duplicate postings of any kind in QL and if a query is being submitted in wrong section then it must be modified accordingly by MOD rather than removing it and asking the user to again repost the same In the correct one [optional suggestion]

well the guy had his question and I'm quite sure the search box was no help on that one (the mobile prices one)...

AND one more comment to your "go to qatcom" answer... When we ask here is not just to get a number, but a recommendation. Yellow pages don't make recommendations, they just give you a list of numbers.

So if I ask for the two-millionth time if someone knows a good dermatologist, I'm not just asking for the doctors number, but for experiences from QL users. That's why we are all here, aren't we? Most of us became members because of a question we wanted to ask.

Some of the offices blocks certain sites and people look for easy solutions. Let them ask whatever they wanted to know or understand. If you are getting irritated with those stuff, simply ignore and move ahead. You can't teach a lesson to all the QL users. So, don't call them illiterate or dumb. They have the freedom to post a thread in this site. Thank'zzz.

I appreciated the way you participated to both answers we offered link to, helpful but same time pointing their ignorance (and I mean it !)..As Smoke says it has to be a method to educate ppl to use this site...which is true Ghina, it's a guidance one!

And Ghina, nobody is judging, I think we are mature enough to notice a common sense post/question and to ignore the chit-chats...ignore-ignorance, feel the difference?

It's so easy to ignore, but only participating we can help ppl and keep the ignorance out!

This is what the original poster (home.biz) underlined, a bit tough ;-)

Well then smoke, that wouldn't happen if people would just open up posts that look like the ones they want to read from the info on the "title"

If you don't want to answer then don't answer rather than nagging about old or new users!

Useful or non useful questions, who are you to judge?

This site was made for many reasons, and most of them are to help people be guided thoroughly in Qatar.

Its better than chatting nonsense stuff anyways!

Fembot if everyone starts to ignore posts that they dont like to read, it will result in delayed responses to your so called urgent queries, then we'll have to hear about how you are not getting the help you need from this website.

I don't quiet agree with you at all!

I understand these people who post up anything to ask anything! I specially understand myself :-P

Well, since I'm one of the people who ask questions about directions and numbers here, lemme try and explain myself....

I search through old QL posts and mostly find what I want to find but not all the time. Google answers only 30% of inquiries about Qatar. And the rest of the sites you mentioned has only general information about Qatar rather than certain information that only people who have lived for sometime in Qatar know really well.

Moreover, When I post a question, I know that most of the browsers are looking through the lounge, cz that's where ppl write fun stuff all the time. Not only that, Qatar Living gives a really Quick response to my urgent need and the question goes out to a wide public range to people in different positions in society. Most of the time, old posts don't serve really well...

The Mods see most of the posts. Unless they feel something is crap, I bet the you shouldn't really bother cz you would never know the urgency of other people. You know what ignore means? Just ignore the posts that you wouldn't want to read.

Sometimes you simply need the latest info...Like last week, I asked about a good dermatologist for my kid.. I had searched first and found at least 200 posts, but again maybe Dr.X , who was recommended 3 months back, might now not be in business, or somebody might have had a bad experience with him recently, or a better guy Dr. Y might have opened shop. No harm in asking..

And if you don't feel like answering, just ignore...let somebody else who is more helpful answer..after all, I am not parked in your back yard, I am simply asking a question on a public forum, ignore me if you do not like me..

well said donasa, If an old memebr is asking these kind of silly questions then he should be stoned to death, but if it a newbie and does not realise the do and don'ts of QL then we can be polite and tel him/her where and how to the answer, as long it is a sensible request.

ur right that many questions are quite outdated but still if asking for location or contact details, either go to WWW.QTEL.COM.QA white pages in ONLINE DIRECTORY or search google

.

As per home.biz, i hvae checked white pages and was surprised to know that you can get a number of any company or person by typing any part of name in that option. One doesn't need to call 180 and still get a wrong number as most of the time they dont understand the name or mistype the name you have asked for.

.

Moreover, if you click the name in WHITE PAGE result, it will give you other extensions or other branches numbers of that company e.g. BANKS

.

As per SMOKE, QL must be used to very important or sensitive informations so we can distribute quality based information rather than posting useless material inorder to increase POINTS [think so]

Its not a matter of being illiterate or smart. The point is i find it hard to believe someone capable of using a damn computer to post questions around a public forum like a freaking 4 year old child.

Some of these newbies just want to get noticed and seeking attention, this is not a popularity contest website. Jokes are allowed yes, joking around of course, but flooding the site with useless questions and topics, posting them in the wrong section etc just makes the website look stupid.

Look guys, I do search before asking questions (would never ask for where to buy a lunch box, tho), but some of the posts that I find are from 2007 or so... Some numbers I've called and there's no answer or the number no longer exists, or the answers do not satisfy you enough. So sometimes it is ok to ask a question that has already been asked, because we're all full of doubts and because there is not a lot of information on the internet about businesses or paperwork.

Yes, sometimes they ask stupid questions, and that pisses off a lot of people, but calling people illiterate won't change it or make you look literate...

Ignore it, that's it.

By leelah• 24 Jun 2009 10:45
leelah

not every one is clever and literate as you all.it is a public forum and any body of any level can ask the questions.

sorry if we are not smart as you smarty pants.you don't have to go through to every single thread.if you don't like it just ignore and chill.

Actually have to agree on this point as well, i'm seeing too many people posting crap questions may be just for fun, or posting things in wrong section most of which happen to be classifieds. Jokes of any kind good or bad can be posted in the funnies section i have no problem with that as long as it follows guidelines to the website.

Qatarliving is here to help with major and minor sensible problems, we are not here to help you find your cat, help you take revenge on your colleagues, or locate your lost underwear perhaps.

I agree with you in some point. But on the other hand,wHY bOTHER? anyway, this is an Open Site.. Anything can be raised up as long as it is allowed. MOD should be the one to modify some Irregularities of this site. As you can see, the Guidelines and instructions are not much so cleared.. So, many users are mislead in doing their part coz the site don't have the full information also that is needed...

(Are these new/old users are so dumb or illiterate that they don’t know which information can be find out from which source. Is the current summer heat of Qatar is boiling their brains out) -- If you call these people in this way, then why they are here? Dumb and Illiterate don't know anything. Maybe you must check yourself first before bashing those words to others. you might get stuck on doing so!!!
