How is the summer in Doha? How do you beat that heat?

Whoa - thats years ago!! I remember some of the old timers telling me about the famous old DC villa/sheds.

Our kids left the college in the late 80's so I guess you never went to the original Doha College in the villa with the associated sheds.

Our daughter only left Qatar last year.

bibliophile,

I'm trying to figure out who you may be and assume that your parents were in Qatar for long time. We were there from 82 to 97 the first stint

Having lived through quite a few summers in Doha (8 or 9 out of the 20 odd years i have lived here..) my advice -

1) Drink Laban which is the sour yougart drink you can buy in any supermarket across town.

Laban is great for cooling the body during the summer months and its best to drink this in the morning with breakfast. You can always get flavoured laban but they are artificially sweetened. I suggest you stick the plain laban and add sugar or honey.

2) Drink lots of water

3) Stay indoors as much as you can and if you do venture out when the sun's out then wear sun screen

4) wear cottons and linen
