When I went there the first time, it was pricey but wonderful. Their mixed tempura dish was nice and crispy. When I returned last month, the quality dropped tremendously! Both service and the food. The salmon was really horrible. It was not fresh at all! Talk about tuna also! The tuna was almost discolored to brown! I think the sushi chef tried to get me sick! I complained to the older lady who she claimed to be the owner and she did nothing and walked away! What a great service they have! I think I will try somewhere else for sushi. Maybe Spice Market at the W hotel...
there's a new Japanese Restaurant at The Pear Qatar called Midori Sushi. The fish was imported by Japan, restaurant is Japanese owned and the food was great. Located at the pearl by Spinny’s in parcel 7, 4495-3848 ext 6779
I'm Japanese with hobby of cooking Japanese tasts.
I can guide anybody who has keen interest for making sushi.
However, sushi with fresh fish meat needs variety of extreamly fresh fishes, hamour, salmon, tuna, red snapper, robster, cuttle fish, and best quality rice, rice, vineger and konbu (sea weed).
Since to buy small quantity of such fresh fish meat and other gredients is rather difficult here, an arrangement to form a group (not less than 5 persons) is recommended to enjoy sushi together for effective expense and consumption.
Anyboby who whish to enjoy sushi cooking, pls contact me.
oke if coming from jarir bookstore just keep straight about 200m you will see strips-mall/shops, NEO is next to Citroen car Showroom. They offer japanese and also italian and lil bit of asian. good variatiy of menu.
before you order your starter, please take note, they will give you warm nice bread with soft butter, or sometime some compliment soup that fill you up so no need starter just order main course.
Everybody is right Everybody is wrong, it depend where we stand.
There is a great place it's attached to a hotel, it's the hotel that is on the road towards the traffic lights that take you to the Qtel branch near al naser street. Great sushi there but it is quite expensive.
I think La Cigale does the best sushi, appart from the restaurant I often go there to get take away, I think the Ramada restaurant's a bit iffy sometimes
Yes.. DAISO.. you are right spicemom. Will keep looking then. It was easy back home that all you need is packed in one pack and the ingredients are easy to get.
i got my sushi rice fr most supermarkets, megamart and shoprite has quite a wide variety of jap stuff too and the shop at hyatt place for the rolling mats and stuff is called DAISO......good luck sometimes they got it sometimes no so when ya see it grab it..........lol
life's too short so make the most of it, you only live but once.......
We'll cross Moon Palace off our list (we turned up too early last time and it was closed). Ramada has been fantastic, as has Regency, but oh so expensive. Might check Neo out. Will report back.
I haven't really seen any AUTHENTIC Japanese restaurant that's outside of Hotels and serve fantastic sushi and especially Sashimi. Tuna is hard to come by I guess, and Salmon is just downright expensive.
Anyone here who has contacts for a good and steady (but reasonably priced) supplier of Fresh Tuna for Sashimi? I think I might just order from who ever that reliable supplier and make em at home.
Another Japanese Treat I miss is Wagyu beef... Again, hopefully outside of hotels... Any suggestions?
I see.. Moon Palace is now a Korean and Japanese restaurant. They serve you the Korean side dishes like kimchi but again it is not totally Korean, for example, potatoes cube. As for the sashimi, it was not really fresh.
well onceupon a time we are allowed to BYO own drinks then the place went into closure for a while and then we never went anymore but the food at that time wsnt too bad dunno abt these days tho
thansk all for yr info will have to get some jap food soon , anyone wanna join me?lol

Grantley, I know about the shop but there is no (at least on my last visit) such sushi making tools.
Charan - we got most of the stuff we needed at either Banzai or the other Japanese shop upstairs in Hyatt Plaza (but can't remember the name...)
I am also a regular Visitor to Sakura. There are some very good sake also available there ;)
Then we have to 'import' ourselves then..
Sushi - i am a big fan of sushi but unfortunately couldn't find tools and ingredients anywhere in Qatar
By the way, can we get the tools and ingredients to make sushi in Qatar? Anyone please!?
Ok...good to know the sushi places around here.
Me like sushi very much

where's Mint?
Go to Mint, they have sushi... it has to be the best one. I dont eat sea food so i dont know but my friends say its the best, but a bit expensive.
It's always the small things that make big differences.
We'll cross Moon Palace off our list (we turned up too early last time and it was closed). Ramada has been fantastic, as has Regency, but oh so expensive. Might check Neo out. Will report back.
thanks again to y'all
Yes the Sakura in Ramada has the best Sushi and sashimi IMHO - go there all the time
Tried the Korean/Jap in Korea Moon Garden - Doha Clinic road yesterday - that was ok but not the best.
The Intercon's is ok, as well as the Marrriots - but the best is still the Sakura in Ramada
- I took the blue pill and found myself alive in Qatar - wish I had taken the red and stayed in Europe
i hear ya scarlett , er when are you gonna be outta town btw??>looks at calendar planning 'sushi' outing.....lol

Japanese Resto in Ramada served nice sushi but I prefer the sushi in Intercon
is served at Neo's restaurant. Its located next to Layali on Salwa rd. Im surprised noone here mentioned it. Its a bit pricey though.
