we were out the day before and to our amazement we saw a group of nosy dolphins circulating and playing around our boat. I would not have believed it if i haden't seen it myself. For 7 to 10 minutes they played around then slowly started moving into the open sea.
i was on my boat on friday and got a brilliant show by 8 dolphins, jumping, swimming around the boat etc... it was wonderful... as things cool down the dolphins like to come into these waters...
we spotted them between Mosque Beach and Al Khor...
We always used to swim with the dolphins in the bay in front of Safliya Island. Unfortunately now due to the ongoing works, the dolphins have left. There was a pod of appox 7 to 10 dolphins there.
Since then, I have fished down the deep channel, going past Banana island, and come across a pod of about 30 or so dolphins. They stayed with the boat for quite some time, leaping in front of the bow as we moved along. They are still around, as are shark (not dangerous)..but you need to go down into the deeper off shore waters, and if you have a reasonable sized fishing boat, you can do this. Dhows not needed, just something upwards of 20ft .
Well you can get a direct flight from Doha to Dar Es Salaam. (Don't hang around there for two long, not much to see). Then you can get a high speed ferry over to Zanzibar which takes about two hours. I stayed at OceanBeach Paradise which was fantastic and you can find them on the web. Dolphin and monkey trips are extra of course.
Yes they (and other cetaceans)exist in Qatar, i seen quite a few when out diving, nothing to regular but alsways nice to see them - nothnig that ecotourism can use i'm afraid.........
Never heard of people swimming with dolphins here, turtles are hard to find as are sharks. Go to Oman or east UAE, plenty of turtles, etc. and maybe you wil get lucky with a dolphin.
You are lucky to see dolphins from a boat never mind in the water anyway...
The most i have seen of dolphins, trutles, porpoise or sea cow are the dead ones on the beaches.......
