Talking on a Mobile Phone while Driving

I have been trying real hard to find a logical solution for this but still beats me.

As per traffic rules of Qatar. Talking on mobile phones while driving using the mobile handset isn't allowed and you are liable to a traffic offense if you're caught doing so. However, talking thru a bluetooth device or wired headset is just fine.

So it means that the problem isn't about losing concentration while talking, but it's about using both hands on the steering wheel.

Now let's look at the smokers. Quite surprisingly, its not a traffic offense for people who smoke while driving!!!

Putting that into equation :

Cigarette in one hand and the other hand on steering wheel is OKAY

Phone in one hand and the other on steering wheel is NOT OKAY

Beats me!!!

have been perfected over the years. I find the most effective way to drive in the mornings is to have a lit cigarette in my left hand and a full cup of coffee in my right. At the same time I have my cell phone propped under my chin as I shout loudly (who needs hands free?) into it. I also have the seat tipped way back for relaxation and I steer with my knees. I also like to leer at girls in adjacent cars. I also make sure that under no circumstances do I ever use my blinkers and I never have my headlights on at night, just the parking lights.

I recommend this as I have never had an accident and I have only caused about thirty.

Exactly my point. Why alone talking on a mobile phone is not allowed? As mentioned by you guys there are so many different things people could do while driving and there's absolutly no problem with that.

and if I get a call, eithier I ignore it or pull over. But don't you think that while talking to your passenger, you are not concentrating and no one gets fined for that.

Also, how many people flick through radio channels while driving, yes thats also dangerous.

Just a thought!!!!!!!!

I see this all the time on the road - it will not stop and I am in complete agreement with you. Truth is if you are chatting on the phone you can't concentrate as youor mind is busy with other things. I have seen people on the phone smiking and also busy with the kids in the back seat all while driving.

Mila...dont cause any accidents...lol

And its unlady-like to talk with your mouth full...lol

In fact I said here on QL I saw one such act at TV R/A (but both male).

I saw one more (This time couple european - both handsome) driving behind me on the Road between CHN

University & Civil defence and it was a Van, kind of a delivery van. I tried to drive

as slow as possible. The guy was clearly distracted, at the Signal I thought he

might bump into me from behind. Naughty me, I tried to slow down as much as possible, went down to 50kmph but they were still slowing down!!! Then

after dipping below 50k I decided to leve them to their vices & sped away.

lots of people don't smoke or don't use mobile phones while driving yet they drive using one hand.

Using a mobile phone while driving impairs driving performance in many ways:  maintenance of lane position, maintenance of appropriate and predictable speed, maintenance of appropriate following distances from vehicles in front

By dragonfly212• 2 Apr 2008 10:30

hey what about a guy receiving some Ora* action.. while he is driving??? isn't that too dangerous as can cost accident as his half brain is gone????

how can u compare talking over the phone and smoking they are two different things. When ur on the phone your mind is half on what the person is trying to say and u trying to reply back or dial a phone number thus taking ur eyes off the road at times. When your smoking ur either talking to  yourself ( u might be crazy but thats a different story) but any case your eyes are on the road.

I need to add this to the list of "benefits of smoking" You cant lose your concentration while smoking in the car lol.

Mila you remind me with one of my friends, his car was broken and he went to the mechanic to fix it, the mechanic asked my friend you never heard noise coming from the engine, my friend replied yes it was since one-month back

The mechanic asked him again, so what you did my friend smile and answer I raise the tone of the cassette !! J

The problem is the logic behind the low

And we know it is better to don't use the mobile when we drive also the smoking may cause cancer

I agree with that one. Even if I am wearing an earpiece... sometimes I tell the caller that I will call back because I can't concentrate on the scary hairy traffic and a conversation.

The question isn't about paying fines. It's about the logic behind few rules.

smoking while driving doesnt mean you have to puff all the time... while driving using handset itself should be in your ear while talking ofcourse... otherwise use loud speaker...
