China performed 330 million abortions since 1971: Data

Nearly 330 million abortions have been performed in China in the 40 years since it first implemented measures to limit population growth in the world's most populous nation, official data showed.

Data posted on the health ministry website earlier this year shows that from 1971 -- shortly before China started encouraging people to have fewer children -- through 2010 a total of 328.9 million abortions were carried out in the country, which has a population of 1.35 billion.

Human rights groups have criticised what they say are harsh enforcement methods.

So she gets married, has a child and makes her own family.

But that child has no one.. No siblings and not even first cousins or aunts or uncles.. He or she is totally alone in the world.. Once parents die, the is totally and orphan..

Kareena, it is even more odd to be born without a house, nothing to eat, no clothes to wear, no medical treatment, rotting alive by the street or getting sexually abused by criminals as a helpless street urchins....better that all the children have no second or third cousins than most of them living in hells.

While people are forced to abort in China due to its one child policy, in many so called civilized world abortion can be done by choice of the individual / couple with supportive rules of the country! May be we do not have a country wise data..!!

What do you like comment on that?

Do we close one eye and say that we don't see all?

Here in Qatar who told me she is an only child and her both parents are the same hence she has no siblings, no aunts or uncles or cousins and she cannot ever have nieces or nephews.. She is all alone in the world except one mother since her father died.. Her grandparents died long back.. Once she gets married, she would have a husband and one child.. But it is very odd isn't it, to imagine a world without family and relatives..

I dont think, India, Phillipines and Indonesia can even remotely be compared to economic success of China....just saying.

How come countries like Indonesia, Philippines and India have done economically as well as china if not even better without this primitive practices or resorting to such stupid policies like only one child per family and all this abortions.

I wish they had the same policy in India. I wish these international human right group also feel the pain of those street urchin in India who are the result of irresponsible & uncontrolled littering of human kind. If you think abortion is inhuman, what do you think of bringing a child to this world on the streets where there is nothing to eat, no toys to play with & no one to love the child. They are exploited by criminals at an age when they don't even understand what is crime. There childhood is over before it begins. Every activist who is against China's abortion policy should let one of his/her child to be brought up as street urchin . If it is OK for them, then China must change her policy. Otherwise, these bastards should be shot in head before opening their mouth.

Abortion is legally permitted on the basis ofpersonal choice in many developed countries though it is not a rule out there !

What is your comment on such permissions in well developed countries?

i lived with a chinese before and she told me how she desired to have a second child, but because the law or the consequences of having more than 1 child was too much to bear or to allow her child to come to suffer and feel like a third world child.. she just brushed the idea away. Luckly for her when she went back to china, she took her cousin sons and is raising him as her own son because the cousin is working outside China though not legally binded by the law.

And now here in qatar i met another lady who is happy with 1 child preferably boy but if not a girl, she said life in china is expensive so they cant afford more than one child. I think some like the law some dont, but abortion is really really sad.

Yes Thesurprised it was a forced policy rather than a choice in its neighbour country india where female fetuses are aborted due them being female?

It would be interesting to know the opinion of Chinese on one child policy. The Chinese I know (nah, not from the Raddison parking...:)), seemed to be OK with the said policy as they could provide good education and lifestyle to their only child. Also didn't hear any sex preference of the child, but then may be myself being an outsider they didn't feel comfortable speaking on those lines.

This type of evil things can happen only in places like china. Hope the idiots responsible for this stupid policies one day will get their due rewards when their own people rise against them

UKEng, In India what you mentioned is right but it is a totally an individual choice, never a national policy.

But in China it is a national law that everyone has to adhere.

Antwerp, I recently noticed an artcle where Chinese Govt already feels the pain of its major % of work force are getting older and not an equivalent or better % of workers are available to continue the good work due to this forced abortions.!!

And no action goes without a reward or punishment!

Pure and simple cold blooded murder by this communists of victims who could not protest or fight back. How many families must have wanted a son, a daughter, a brother or a sister but this evil communists guys in China had their own stupid rules to control the natural process

I think China realizes their wrong action now and preparing to pay for that by revising such laws as you said -draconian laws..

Truly amazing figures.

Sadly, this happens when governments enact and enforce such draconian laws..
