Things have changed
Anyone going through the airport immigration today may feel it is a bind.
In the early 80's, there were endless lines waiting at immigration (one hour wasn't excessive). The trick was to get on the first bus and stand at the front right next to the door (I think they still open that one first).
"Immigration" was a concrete booth about 15' long containing two circular holes (one at each end) at naval level, maybe about 8" deep and with a piece of wood covering half of that so that you couldn't see in.
The passport and any other papers went in at the first hole and came out of the second hole.......but not necessarily in the same order as they went in.
It wasn't uncommon for people in the baggage hall to be looking for the individual who had been given their passport!
Customs was a real hoot. Tommy Cooper the late UK comedian found that out......"just like that"!
You just reminded me of when I was in Doha for interview.
I took a picture of a building on the corniche (before the palace was built) and the police wanted my camera as photographing government buildings wasn't allowed. The reason bacame apparent much later. Life magazine had a cover pictured a guard at one of the palaces and he was leaning on his rifle with his finger up his nose the heading was "Security".
Same thing happened when I took one of the Sheraton when it first opened. I was accused of taking pics of the naval base over the bay.
I must sort out some more pics if I didn't throw them when I moved over to Turkey
You stopped posting your pictures, dweller. That's a shame. I think they go with the spirit of your post.
