"Thou shall not covet thy neighbor's husband"

How come there's no such commandment like that in the Bible? How come it's always "thy neighbor's wife"? This sounds unfair! I should file a complaint to God and make new amendments to his rules! LOL

I think when this was written in a semetic language (wasn't it originally in Hebrew???) then translated to English, it lost some of the original meaning.

In Arabic, the word "Zawj" usually means husband, but could also mean wife. When speaking to a group that contains a possible mixture of males and females, we would use the masculine form to address them all (even if it's one BOY and 200 women).

bible is more focus on male than female. Bible insighted the clan of joseph and not Marrie's clan but jesus came from her and joseph want to leave her when he found out that she is fragnant. Does it mean discrimination?

It really is a long long way down, esp after the 11,000 ft stop over and the early morning 2am hike to make it to the summit at 13,000ft to see the beautiful sunrise. Also no vegetation higher up, so it can be slippery. I'll get Mrs. BE to make sure that she ties the rope to you for safety reasons ;0) ... or maybe if you prefer to be free as a bird, she can have the rope tied to the sure footed guide.

1. Thou shall not worry, for worry is the most unproductive of all human activities.

2. Thou shall not be fearful, for most of the things we fear never come to pass.

3. Thou shall not cross bridges before you come to them, for no one yet has succeeded in accomplishing this.

4. Thou shall face each problem as it comes. You can only handle one at a time anyway.

5. Thou shall not take problems to bed with you, for they make very poor bedfellows.

6. Thou shall not borrow other people’s problems. They can better care for them than you can.

7. Thou shall not try to relive yesterday for good or ill, it is forever gone. Concentrate on what is happening in your life and be happy now!

8. Thou shall be a good listener, for only when you listen do you hear ideas different from your own. It is hard to learn something new when you are talking, and some people do know more than you do.

9. Thou shall not become “bogged down” by frustration, for 90% of it is rooted in self-pity and will only interfere with positive action.

10. Thou shall count thy blessings, never overlooking the small ones, for a lot of small blessings add up to a big one

When you say 'commit adultery' it means you only had sexual relations with somebody else's spouse but does not claim the spouse totally...while 'covet' means to totally wanna claim something in whole...possibly the spouse and everything that belongs to him.

britexpat, you'd have to fly to MY cos they can't afford to fly here. Apparently, they're chasing their fair game all over that side of the globe.

/On the serious note - I totally agree. Why do you think I'm sailing in this particular boat? My advisors tell me "fair game" but do I listen? *sigh* Thinking of it.. I could be like Liz Taylor by now ... a house from each and draped in diamonds ... What to do? Must learn to be naughty and naughty. ... still got time. ;0)

Marriage / partnerships denotes fidelity. So , in essence, it is wrong to covet anyone else.

I agree but bitexpat, "Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's partner" is too widely worded, so say some of my pals. If not married, apparently to them, all are fair game. Shocking, isn't it? Youngsters these days...

I think women have more reasons to covet their neighbor's husband than the men their neighbor's wife.

Men just look at beuty if it is not their just forget it but women covet their wealth, care, etc,etc,too...

But again it should be equal to all...

There is that rule. Adultery applies to both men and women.

as for coveting, there is a specific rule for men since they are more inclined / tempted to "desire" for other people's wife.

Damn vimmin and their bumpy bits. they can mesmerise a man.

Anywaym perhaps it should be "Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour\s partner".

Note: For those looking for a technicality. Neighbour does not mean just next door, but anyone around.

Because God knew man was, by nature, very naughty but times have changed and woman learned from man.

New Amendment - "Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's husband or wife"

NB: Gays and Lesbians should not be excluded, y'know. All hail to equality!!!
