Thread Hijack

the truth 321

Why is it when a topic is submitted it is quickly hijacked and turned into what would appear to be a slagging of the muslim religion??

This is evident in about 75% of the strings on QL, not once have I seen the same derision afforded to other religions such as Catholicism, Christianity, Buddhism, Hinduism, Wicca etc etc etc.

Granted we all (well most of us) live in Qatar, yep we all have our whinges and gripes but come on poking fun at a religion that is the predominant belief in the country in which we reside is not a good idea surely!

To quote a text from a book (possibly completely ficticious if you believe a true account of the bible) "He without sin cast the first stone"

What in common have Judaism, Christianity and Islam ?

They all consider Jerusalem their property.

What in common the Jews and the moslem share?

They consider some stones blocks sacred and ritualistic.

The jews pray at the stones of the "Wailing Wall"

The moslem walking seven times around Kabba, touching Black stone,

Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery

None but ourselves can free our minds..

There are manyyy times that some members mock Islam and I do nothing only because the thread is not related or because I'm sick of it.. However, They are never sick of that: they keep doing it like they have nothing else to do :-)

Did you ever think maybe we talk about Islam and Muslims more because we live in the heart of the Muslim world, according to the CIA factbook 95% of the country is Islamic, and....oh ya, we are surround by mosques and women in hijab.

Just a guess though.

I think this so called Islam bashing is more imagined than real. I think sfd24 is wrong when he says that some QL users don't like Islam and muslims. If we don't like muslims then we shouldn't be in this country. As far as Islam is concerned, many of us don't know much about it. However, if someone makes a comment either in ignorance or in jest, up go the defences of some people. The response is usually a diatribe along with quotations from the Qu'ran in an often, passive aggressive way.

Qatari is right. Lets leave religion to specific religious topics and not to general threads as we all seem to be too immature to make and receive comments without taking offense.

respect one another, no personal attacks, open mindedness...its all been discussed before...yet when criticisms get personal it ends up in a war of words.

this is not going to change.

its not exclusive to religion either, most just want others to accept their view as the right one,the motto used is more like their view or no discussion.

but then again, this is an interaction forum so we have to go accept the downside of it too. so no sweat.

I mentioned before that some QL users don't like Islam and Muslims and they always try to mould the thread according to their thoughts. Also its agreed that its their right (By moderator also). And second thing i believe that not a single muslim will criticise other religion becaz all relegion are respected in Islam and no Muslim (True)is allowed to break the circle of respect.

One more thing i noticed that as a result of these threads and criticism, people are doing more research on their relegions (Specially Muslims, including me ) & thats great

So i am agree with Qatari to give full rights to non-muslims to criticise Islam/Muslim, atleast may be some of us can realize their ignorance and faults

We have slammed on Judaism, Catholicism, and Islam. The reason no one says boo about Wikka is that it is a cult like wack a doo beleif system. But you can discuss anyhting you want want and we are all more than happy to have fun with it.

As for the Islam bashing you refer to you should probably note that the threads tend to be hiojacked by some zealot who says "my religion is better and you should live how I live" only to have his argumnets slammed back at hgim. But it is typically the beleivers of certain beleifs who throw their hat into the arena on theses threads as they are not forced into posting.

i mentioned this in ony of my threads, it does seem to be hijacking a lot of threads out here! I love learning about new religions and understanding why people believe them but sometimes it comes across as people really wanting to put down other religions which i really dont understand.

has anyone commented or humoured about any other religion other than islam? i have been on Ql for sometime and i have noticed it has been very easy to drag Islam, arabs their way of life, people from Asia and subcontinent into most subjects and the topic takes a different turn from there.

i have noticed many find it very easy to make a point about islam, and once thats done, there will be a discussion because i have also noticed that there are many who are passionate about their religion.

it is not meant to cause offence to anyone.it does cause confusion and i have been pointing out for quite sometime that it has now become a habit of all members to stray away from the topic.

Guys, this is a good point.

Lets keep religious discussions in the Religion forum and not tack them onto other threads that may have some passing relation.

Thanks

I was raised a Catholic and I am quite happy to discuss its shortcomings. There are many. This includes questionable dogma about birth control, sexual abuse by priests and mant other issues. I am laso happy to try and explain the good things about Catholicism and the common misconceptions held by non Catholics. Surely, discussion is a good thing. The more people understand, the more tolerant they become.

I am not interested in slagging off Islam or any other religion. I do want to understand Islam and have been reading up on it. I don't think many people really intend to slag off Islam. They do sometimes find it confusing and therefore raise valid questions. Sometimes these questions are not very tactfully put and they get an over-sensitive response. Then the whole thing escalates.

Sometimes its boring, sometimes its funny and sometimes its offensive. All the time it is human.
