Traffic ticket questions. . .argh!
I was in a long, long queue at a traffic circle this morning (~10:35am) and I called my appointment to let them know I would be late. By the time the woman found my appointment, fielded my question, etc, I was one car behind the front car at the queue.
The traffic guy saw me hanging up and putting my phone down, which I was doing before I saw him (not that it matters, but just for the record!). He stepped in front of me and (presumably) typed my license plate number into his handheld gadget.
OK, so fair enough. . .being in the queue still constitutes "driving" and I deserve the ticket. . .but. . .
I am flying out early Sunday morning and I don't want to get delayed because of this ticket. I went to the police station at Madinat Khalifa at 3:30pm today and, not surprisingly, there was no record of the ticket. I did a search on the MOI website and there was no record of it there either.
Do you have any advice for me? Any guesses as to when will it turn up? If it doesn't come in before I leave
Qatar will my husband be stopped when he reenters Qatar on the 28th?
Next time I'll know better. . .if I'm running late I just won't call :o(
Thanks,
Expat Sueño
What a drag, jdylan. You clearly did not deserve the ticket :( I wonder if there's any way to report the other guy for overly aggressive driving?
I was leaving Villagio at the light when it turned yellow, to red. I hit my brakes but the jerk in the big Landcruiser speeding up behind me started flashing his lights. I freaked and thought he was going to crash into me so I made a sharp right towards Hyatt plaza mall. He stopped at the light (where I had been), and the light flashes twice.
Now I have a 6000 QR "red light running" ticket even though I didn't run the red light, the picture only shows me turning right on a red at 8km per hour. The SUV wasn't ticketed because he stopped. Great, no? I think if I hadn't moved, he would have rear ended me.
I've been down to the ticket place, got all my pictures and went to this office to fight it, they sent me to the Colonel across town who made me sit in his office for an hour before taking the papers and asking me to leave...ticket is still in the system. I'm not paying it until I've exhausted all forms of at least getting it reduced, since the picture shows me NOT running the light, just moving out of the way, slowly.
Gotta love it.
Good points Mandi & deedee - I didn't think about that. Yes, the car is in his name. This means I'm probably good to go unless they note (and care) that he's already out of the country (which I doubt).
I guess I just have to wait until it pops up on the system and pay it so it doens't interfere with his business travel.
Jeez, I'm kicking myself for being polite. . .
in your name? If you are on your husband's sponsorship it will go under his name (would still show up however on MOI website under the license plate #) I am saying this because there is no way they will stop you because you will have nothing on your record. My first ticket showed up 5 months after the fact.
Is the car in your name? If not, then you won't be hassled at the airport. And no problem with re-entry.
Mandi
for the manual tickets it takes about on week to 10 days to be loaded into the system ...it is not like the electronic tickets( speed traps or red light cameras)
any way just to be in the safe side try to make the last and final chick on saterday night before the flight
Hmm.. No need expat.. it easily happens in this part of the world.

Funny Arien! Am I a terrible person for hoping he wrote down the wrong number :op
Expat - He must have written the number wrong and some poor fellow will be having the ticket in his credit. ;)

There is another thing called Car Speaker Phone System. It costs only QR 450 :)work with blue tooth technology.
yes it take 2-3 days to appear in MOI website.
you can pay in airport, at immigration if you stop there paid in the bank inside airport.
easy..
I have a headset but forgot to bring it today. . .sigh. Mea culpa!
you can travel outside he country without any problem.
I don't think they check on entry, just exiting. It can take (quite) a few weeks for the tickets to appear
but that is why they sell head-sets and car accessories stuff.
