The QR6,000 penalty for jumping a red signal at any traffic signal intersection will also apply to those who jump the newly installed roundabout signals, according to an official at the Traffic Department.
Lt Colonel Rashid Saleh al-Jamra said that the traffic investigation section will be monitoring the roundabout signals and enforce the law in case of a violation made by a motorist.
“With the reopening of schools, our investigation section will be intensifying its patrols to check those who do not comply with the traffic rules at roundabouts,” the official was quoted as saying by a local Arabic daily.
Lt Colonel al-Jamra, who is the head of the traffic flow section, added that the same penalty deserved by those who jump the red signal in any traffic intersections will go for those who make the violation in a roundabout signal as well.
According to the traffic rules, the motorist who violates the red signal is punishable by paying a fine of QR600 along with receiving seven traffic points to his record at the traffic department.
The traffic signals which have recently installed at roundabouts were a solution to ease the traffic congestions at roundabouts. However, they have no camera installed with them.

I have noticed in many occassions that people jumping red signal at the round abouts as if there is no traffic signal installed and priority is "only for my own vehicle" completely ignoring the incoming traffic from other end and not bothered to even turn their head atleast....If it is a holdiay... then the situation is even worse!!! So how do you monitor all these offenders?

Thats timely as we are now beginning to seeing less and less mad drivers around qatar. QR6K fine is justifiable against the anticipated intensity of any accidents.

I really dont understand if the radars and penalties are to meant to reduce accidents and fatalities.. if it was so why do the govt install speed breaker on car.. surely the govt and we could save money by this

Red lights don't matter. Certain people here ignore all the rules no matter what the cost, you wonder why the death toll is so high here????

.....not useful until they install radars at the round abouts.....coz the locals will easily get away with the "monitoring" kind of a JOKE.

And just how is this going to affect the worst perpetrators of this offence - namely the Nationals - will not pay the fine, simply ignoring it and the 7 points that accompany? I say this in light of a thread recently which indicated that on interogating a National's "record" at the Ministry, a regular contributor discovered that he had violations dating back to 2003!!!

That's very good decision as I have seen such practices very often.
