So I was absent from QL for a looonng time, and I've returned to find many a troll hiding in the internet woodwork! Is it just me or are there more of them than there was years ago?
And, oh knowledgable QL'ers, who are the ones to watch out for? I'm going to try not to feed the trolls whenever possible :)
I'm craving form one since this morning. :)

Dubaro, you nailed it on the head! I actually agree that the fun of boards like this is to be a bit more adament or argumentative than you might be in real life. However, trolls are the ones who make it impossible for others to have a conversation or stay on topic! Loads of different QLers regularly disagree with each other, but I think trolls are the ones who just turn up and push others away.
My actual point for posting this was, after being away for a while, i wanted to know if there were any to look out for: so I know who to bother commenting back to, and who it's best to just ignore :P
For the last few days I was toying with the idea of holding a meet-up in which qlers would invite their most hated troll!
I wonder how many such cowards would show-up??
That moron of a monkey is pushing other sensible posters away. It's a pity that QL got one like him on board. He is just like a plague to be avoided.
it will definitely save energy to redirect their attention. Some people thought they have the monopoly of right things.

Amen Bachus! Being argumentative does not make for a troll, and Olympics is entertaining and gives different perspective. Always appreciated! It's not like the guy goes on QL to say 'look at me' and start threads on every tiny little difficulty he has every day or post million times on a thread. But then SOME people don't like the challenge . . . but then maybe you are right, maybe they do like the attention ;-)
IMO when a QLer shouts 'troll' at someone they're fighting with it means they've lost the argument imho. But isn't that true for name-calling generally?!?!

If the criteria is someone who posts stuff to get a rise, I'd say most of the active QLers are guilty, including the OP. Starting attention-seeking threads to complain about troll seems very troll-like to me. But part of the fun of QL is having interesting debates with people who'd you meet in public to discuss such things.
And JJJ75. On threads I've been on in which you two are arguing, you are just as likely to appear after he does and start the argument. And you are more likely to resort to calling him names and make blatant personal attacks. As much as I disagree with him, I sometimes appreciate his local perspective; and I don't think his disagreeing with him makes him a stalker or a troll. It's your choice but the fact that you are talking about him here (and on other threads) in some sort mock complaint when he's not even around hardly makes your case--me doth think she protests too much and all that. Just ignore him; it's easy enough.

BG - rather the other way around - conducted a little experiment and it confirmed that I did indeed have stalkers. I would be flattered but it is a little concerning as BE points out.

Internet trolls are people who create problems for others on different sites while contributing nothing positive.
They are terribly miserable people with very low-self esteem and naturally born idiotic in their way of thinking (no accidents or head injuries) with no internet using ethics who think he/she is funny when they are totally a joke. They waste their time as well as other peoples, trying to be funny when they are not. They might give an answer saying Google it. Or thanks for the two points and they always ask pathetic questions.
Yeah BG has been a 'troll' since I started using QL just didn't know he had a special name. troll is a nicer name though than I had in mind!

As I understand it, trolls are the folks who lurk on boards to sidetrack conversations, start fights, and be generally antagonistic jerks. Don't get me wrong, I love me a good QL rant session-- it does speed up the work day, doesn't it--, but trolls are the ones who will always bring it back around to one or two talking points, or seem to be particularly contrary for no apparent reason, other than getting attention.
