UPDATE: Clarification on ID Fine Confusion

A senior official from the Ministry of Interior has clarified that individuals will not be fined for not having their ID's at hand. When the story came out a few days it ago, many expats were worried. Read below for the clarification.

Doha, Qatar Police

Should a person specifically refuse to present his or her ID to officials, that is when the punishment becomes valid.

However, if the individual is unable to instantly produce their ID or passport, they will be held back until they can produce identification.

“Once you prove who you are, you can walk away,” Brigadier Nasser Mohamed Eisa Al Sayed, Director of the Interior Ministry's Search and Follow-Up Department, told The Peninsula.

“You are committing a crime only when you refuse to produce any identification document on the insistence of a law-enforcement official. Just not carrying your ID isn’t an offence punishable with a fine.”

But, if the individual did refuse to show identification, then they would be referred to to the court at the ministry’s Search and Follow-Up Department, and can be subject to the QR10,000 fine.

Should the individual admit to being mistaken, he or she could possibly walk away with a “reconciliatory” fine of QR1,000, reported The Peninsula.

To solve this issue and since everyone walking with his smart phone, take a picture of the QID and store it, at least they can see your photo and the ID number or they will ask you to bring the original one!!!!

Ok so why the hell were they worried? do they not carry their IDs around? I think they should be fined because they deserve it for not carrying their IDs with them!

the purpose of issuance of QID is for identification of the individual and for authorities to know their status if needed whilst here in Qatar.

As expatriate you are bound to obey the laws of the host country at all times.

Please do not make an excuse or alibi for not bringing your QID. Going to a nearby shop to buy something is not an excuse, if you can bring your wallet and money then there is no reason for you not to bring your QID.

I believe the QAR 1,000.00 fine is if you admit that you refuse to provide identification at the time the authorities requested for it.

Just follow the rules as ignorance of the law excuses no one....

you are absolutely right....forgetting to take your ID when you are outside your home...is not a crime....so why 1000QR FINE?....Almost 70% of people from qatar are from outside ...Also if you carry it all over the place ur chances of losing it is high...

Men are never convinced of your reasons of your sincerity of the seriousness of your sufferings except by your death. So long as you are alive your case is doubtful; you have a right only to their skepticism.A man is an adult human male. Like most other male mammals, a man's genome inherits an X chromosome from his mother and a Y chromosome from his father. The male fetus produces larger amounts of androgens and smaller amounts of estrogens than a female fetus.so to me i fink men can still be perfect without woman.....
