Used Car dilemma
Hello to All Qlers,
I've been in Qatar for some time but first time posting here.
I am looking to change my car, I have Nissan Altima 2008 right now but want to change now. Can someone share their experience with any of these used cars. I'm planning to get one of these in a 2005-2008 model.
1. Infinity FX35
2. Lexus RX330/350
3. Porsche Cayanne
4. Infiniti G35
5. Mercedes E200/240
6. BMW 5 series sedan
7. BMW X5
8. Audi A4/A6 or Q5
I knwo that for used cars, Toyota and Honda are the best for reliability and resale. But I really wanted to try one of these cars if possible, they all are around the same price i.e. QR40-50,000. I first wanted to get advice from someone who may have bought these used. I know the repairs are more expensive but have also heard that now there are some good mechanics for these kind of cars in Doha.
Any advice will be helpful.
Thanks

Tell it like it is
ok let me tell you some facts about the German cars.I was having BMW,so this is in particular for bmw..
1) oil change is fine at Al tayseer petrol station.Though oil filter is expensive compared to Japanese car.
2) Gear oil and filter change is not possible at Al tayseer or waqood. You need to take it to industrial area.
3) Break pad replacement is done at Al tayseer but pads much expensive.
4) tires will cost you more but depends which brand your using. Michlelin most expensive.
5) you wont be able to wash your car inside the bonnet like engine.because water damages the computerize system of German cars.
6)Used spare parts are available widely but expensive.the price of used parts of Bmw is equal to the price of original Japanese parts.
7) Mechanic not available at Doha for BMW .you need to go to industrial area each time. The mechanics will charge your much because your driving German cars and its a sign that your rich.LOL
8)Each time you take your car to mechanic you should be having a minimum of 1500 QR at least because thats the minimum they will charge you..the higher you can imagine yourself depends on fault in your car.
9)forget about going to Alfardan Bmw showroom. The worst ever showroom and service center i have seen in my life. The mechanics are all filipinos. They even dont know how to drive the car and let alone repairing. They are just earning high salary for nothing.Only the car inspection with just looking at your car will cost for 300 Qr.Thats the starting.you must be having minimum 5000 QR in your pocket if your thinking to maintain your car at Alfardan.
10) Re-sale value of German cars is nothing compared to Japanese cars. You will only get the quarter of your buying price.
So here is the thing bro.unless you belong to Al thani royal family don't think of buying German shit.
I hope you got the clear idea now.
Thats right, I checked but FJ cruisers are much higher and I don't really like Nissan Xterra ;-(
Can I ask if you guys are suggesting the Infiniti based on the fact that its a Nissan i.e. supposed to be cheaper than the expensive German cars? or is it based on experience or owning an Infiniti.
Does anyone have any idea of general maintenance comparison for a normal Japanese car, vs. a German car. For example costs of oil change, brake replacements, tires, and similar routine things.
If not, I think that would be an interesting and good post to create. A lot of people are into buying used cars and specific info is just not available.
Thanks
He's not going to get an FJ Cruiser in his price range
Yea kavin has a point as Japanese cars are cheaper to maintain. I think you should also check out the Nissan Xterra and FJ Cruiser.
All of these cars listed are crap and expensive version of shit.better go for Toyota.its economic, parts are easily available and anyone can repair.I bought bmw back in 2013.Although i sold it but am still regretting why i bought shit. These cars will suck the money like sucking your blood and no 1 repair these cars in Doha city.u need to go to industrial area even if you want to change the oil.Rest up to u.
Thanks a lot Nexlinx97 and britexpat, I think both of you have narrowed it down quite well based on what I'm looking for. So I guess I'll start looking for the Infinitis ;) I really dont have a preference between car and SUV. WHat do you guys think of an Infiniti G35 or G37 ? any experience? My concern is that it is not very popular I think so might be harder to sell compared to FX35?

Isn't Range Rover Indian now?
I didn't know that the Range Rover was a German car. Britexpat should feel rather insulted now.
Your price range shows that you don't really want to be paying for higher running costs
Therefore I would take the X5 , Cayenne, Audis out of the picture .
The 5 series can be expensive when things go wrong and the Lexus IS ugly
So that leaves the Infiniti and the FX35
My suggestion is to first decide whether you want a car or a SUV
Then narrow down to Two
Although all of those cars will cost approximately the same to purchase, the german cars will cost you a lot in the long run. I bought a range rover sport 2011 because it was a good price, but ended up regretting the decision because of how expensive it was to maintain. In my opinion the best option is the infiniti fx35.
