Using Apple ichat in Doha

Does anyone in Doha successfully use ichat on their Apple to make video calls overseas? I've seen Skype work on a PC from the same internet connection I use but every time I try to contact people on ichat it says there's not enough bandwidth! If I can't get it to work I will soon have a month old MacBook Pro for sale....
