Valenciano-Yeng Filipino Concert: Corruption

jdylan
By jdylan

Sorry I am just posting this, but I have been busy. So anyway, is it possible for Filipinos to hold a concert without there being any corruption?

I bought two VIP tickets at the Filipino barber in the souk for this concert the last week of Nov, the tickets were authentic, I saw him rip them out of the book. I paid QR 160 each.

The night of the concert, we go and guess what? We aren't allowed in because "the VIP section is full". Excuse me? Also, there were about 50-100 OTHER people standing around outside who also had VIP tickets who weren't allowed in! Be, being a westerner (and tired of bullsh*t) argued with the Filipina girl at the door, but she ignored me. She DID, however, let some guy leave, and come back in 5 minutes later with about 5 of his friends, and she let them all in!

I asked where I can get my money back, and she said no refunds. I saw a Qatari Official, I didn't know if he was a policeman or something, but I went up to him and told him I want to file a complaint, and we both went to the Filipina girl and he asked her about it, and she still siad "VIP section full", but he showed her my ticket and she shrugged and said maybe I can get a seat in the regular section.

I said "fine, but I paid 160 QR each for these! Where do I get the difference back?" and she just looked at me.

So again, can the Filipino community do anything without people accepting bribes, letting friends in for free, corruption, ruining other people evenings, etc.

(I have been to the PI several times, and each time I swear I am not going back because all everyone wants to do is rip me off, scam me, BS me, etc. I had a dream of moving there someday and opening a business, but after seeing what goes on there, and now here, I have decided against it.) And please don't act all offended, my PI friends. You ALL know what really goes on.

Can anyone tell me who I can go to in order to get a refund for these unised VIP tickets? I paid 320 QR and was refused entry, and I am really pissed off. Who ran the show? Is there a Qatar business I can go to? It isn't even about the money, I am just tired of this BS. By the way, did anyone else run into any trouble like this? I know there were quite a few people stranded outside, also refused entry.

They either sold too many tickets or the sh*thead workers were letting people in for bribes, filling all the seats. Worse case, I'll go back to the Filipino Barber with a Qatari policeman and demand my money back. Think it will work?

to the next producer...

make sure that when you have section for VIP...a.k.a VIP section... seats must be coded.. i.e color coded and numbers, and the VIP tickets.... MUST have number too, making sure that this is not just a reserved seats but rather a "SURE SEAT"..

and during the concert.... The ushers at the gate should check the seat number on his/her ticket and accompany the VIP ticket holder inside the VIP section, if someone seated on his assigned seat, the usher should inform the person to transfer on his assigned seat.... KALAS!

to the organizer/producer of Gary's concert - to you Dalia -- the possible source of errors are:

error no. 1. so many people were allowed to enter without VIP ticket... ushers fault?.. to solve.. they should check randomly who among the people inside who dont have a VIP ticket, and advise them to stand up or better advise them to go out... no vip ticket.. no entry

error no. 2. lack of chairs.. weeew. to solve.. count the number of VIP tickets.. count the actual number of chairs.. the number of vip tickets should match the number of chairs... if less chair... hello... just add chair..

error no.3 the producer dont know how to run a concert.. period... solution... when buying a ticket... ask who is the producer... search about the integrity and capacity of the producer/organizer, else go there early, to grab a seat!

what's the next step for those who did not enter the VIP section... send a letter to TFC, im sure they can help you and file a charge to the department/institution who gave permit to hold this event..

hope this thing will not happen again...

jdylan,

You should complain to the POLICE not in QL it is common sense mate! if you have a problem then go to authority not to people, where people just make comment and make you bad....

Bring the tickets and go to the nearest Police Station and complain that you pay this and that and they don't give me this and that.... Next time don't watch Filipino concert if you don't like they way they organize okey?

Jdylan you said:

Anyway, the Phil govt. wanted us to leave, so we did in 1992.

Brief historical data of the Philippines Independence.

The country's status as a territory changed when it became the Commonwealth of the Philippines in 1935, which provided self-governance. Plans for independence over the next decade were interrupted during World War II when Japan invaded, and occupied the islands. After the Japanese were defeated in 1945, and control returned to the Philippine, and American forces in the Liberation of the Philippine Islands from 1944 to 1945, the Philippines was granted independence from the United States on July 4, 1946.[3]

Closing of all US military bases.

Subic BAY

U.S. Naval Base Subic Bay was a major ship-repair, supply, and rest and recreation facility of the United States Navy located in Zambales, Philippines. It was the largest U.S. Navy installation in the Pacific and was the largest overseas military installation of the United States Armed Forces after Clark Air Base in Angeles City was closed in 1991.

Clark Air Base

The overthrow of President Marcos in the Philippines in 1986 had led to a souring of relations between the islands and the United States. The Philippine Senate rejected an agreement made between the administration of then-president Corazon Aquino and the US to extend the American lease on the facility, arguing that the terms offered were not sufficiently generous. The US military had warned that if an agreement was not reached in time for the military to complete a full withdrawal, it would end negotiations and begin preparing to leave.

Clark Air Base was completely evacuated beginning June 10, 1991, as a result of the Mount Pinatubo eruption. Aircraft assigned to the 3d TFW were flown to Kadena AB, Okinawa and Andersen AFB, Guam. The eruption of Mount Pinatubo caused considerable damage, raising the cost of staying considerably and making it even less likely that the US would offer more generous terms to remain. With no agreement in sight the US ended negotiations and began shutting down Clark.

The 3d Tactical Fighter Wing was placed on non-operational status with the evacuation of Clark in June 1991

I guess next time old "Dahlia" comes around with a show, we can all spread the word with text-messaging. If we all send a text to others interested in the concert, maybe we can make an impact. Maybe I'll go and bring my video camera and record all that goes on outside as proof. Thanks for the idea of going to the Phil embassy, good idea.

Also:

>>>you woudn't be kicking japanese out of the phil if you guys are not there in the first place..

Actually, we kicked them out because they took over the island and we didn't want them gaining more footholds in the Pacific. We fought them in many places where the US didn't have a presence, like New Guinea, Iwo Jima, etc.

forget it and learn your lesson well. If it happened many times, it means you to stop patronizing these kind of promotions. Don't expect too much from Genesis, it's not worth their time.

And Treysdad, we just need to inform our Kababayans that to be very extra careful in dealing with such promotions. There were many fellow Qlers of Filexpat who was somewhat duped to be an accessories by selling the tickets.

Same thing happened in me during one of the Filipino shows held in Aladdin's Kingdom the past years.

I bought VIP tickets. But, there were no seats available when we arrived. We didn't arrive late. We were there 30 minutes before the show started.

We didn't finish the show. And, I demanded for my money's back. But, sad to say, it didn't happen.

It's the same promoter named Dahlia and company that brought the show to Qatar.

What I did was send a STRONG LETTER to the Philippine Embassy. You know what the embassy did? They didn't even sent me a reply that they received the faxed letter. They just kept their silence.

So, I was not satisfied still, one day, i texted Ms. Dahlia. She informed me that she received a copy of my complaint letter. She thanked me for the letter. That was it. I thought, she will learn her lessons well. But, sadly, still the same thing happened again.

About the Bantay Bata beneficiary, etc. The promoters are just using this organization. When I watched that show, I was able to talk to Dindo Amparo, the ABS-CBN reporter. He told me that he will report the incident to Balitang Middle East. But, it didn't happen. Maybe, he's just protecting the people involved, coz, the foundation of ABS-CBN got a certain amount/percentage of the show.

TOO BAD that up to now, these things happen. I don't know what the Philippine Embassy representatives are doing.

I truly enjoy reading every post in this forum, It started from a simple ticket refund claim, to the racial confrontations and finger pointing among Filipinos.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Of all of the comments, there was a most crucible of lies, "The famous families in the Philippines."

"The Valenciano and Pangilinan families are known as God-fearing families in the Philippines so I trust they will look into this matter seriously."

That it is exactly the innocent victims used to scream to those "Priest of the Catholic Church" during the inquisition:

Example:

"My Holy highness,"

Please!

"I'm a God FEARING person,"

"Don't burn me in your inquisition."

If they did spare your life, then you loose the lands, farms and animals or anything of value in the name of GOD and greed!

That is why a lot of people in the Philippines, are poor and miserable and those rich families richer, just giving the people a placebo smile for their misery and caring less.

----------------------------------------------------------------

In todays semi autonomous Religious musical concerts in Doha:

1-You get to keep the ticket as a souvenir for your book scrap, Why? because of lack of proper organization, you get left out. Then you lose out in watching the show.

2-Those Filipinos responsible for the show, all fun-loving, hospitable, intelligent, patient and kindhearted, they just walk away praising God with your hard cash.

Of course in today's world, Money is the Price and the God.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Dylan

I'm very Sorry for you loosing the money you invested in that ticket concert.

I know, it gives you a sour tongue and a bad opinion. It is your total right to voice your opinion.

I believe anyone using or praising the name of God or Jesus in any concert should be non-profitable. You give those performers fame and glory and you get nothing in return.

>>>well corruption came from the western countries:

Really? I lived in US, Germany, Canada...and ran into very little, actually none I can remember. As I traveled all over SE Asia, Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia, and PI, I meet nothing but crooked cab driver, bus driver, boat owners, hotel people....they see a westerner and seem to think we are stupid and will pay 3 times the amount for something, or they get us out in the middle of nowhere, stop the car/bus/boat and refuse to drive anymore unless I give them a "tip". This doesn't happen in the west, moron. It sound slike you are simply making excuses for your own culture. Of course, in all these nations, everything is the wests fault. Right?

>>>they corrupted the nations they think they can put in their pockets, they reap their resources and just leave them like nothing happend.

Right, the US corrupted the Philippines. Was that after we kicked the Japanese out? (You know, we had a lot to do with Japan after the war, and corruption there is almost nil.)

Not really, I have a house in California. The water is colder, but we have nice sunsets and malls too.

>>>But he explained before the show that he lost his passport on the plane.

Excuse me? How did he "lose his passport" on the plane? What is he, 12? You put the thing in your briefcase, lock it, and put it in your overhead bin. That, or you hire a competent manager to handle everything. That sounds very amateurish for a big star. Is he American? You say the US Embassy came to the rescue.

>>>argued with the Filipina girl at the door....."

I stopped reading at this point.

Why? I wasn't meaning I was being an a-hole. I meant that since I am a westerner, I might be able to help myself and the other people if I talked to someone. I am not being arrogant, but being a westerner here has advantages, if you didn't know. I don't ask for it, but people seem to listen to me more than they do my Filipna girlfriend. When she tried talking to the gate girl, she ignored her. When I talked to her, she listened. What's the point with you "not reading anymore"? One makes use of his or her available resources.

Anyway, thanks for the help, I am glad to know other people are concerned and sad other people were screwed, too. I plan to write letters to some of these idiots, and I still want my money back. I mean, I'm not asking too much, am I? I bought a ticket was wasn't allowed in...seems simple to me.

By senadorcrabbs• 6 Dec 2008 00:06

i was there also waited for 3 hours, and i was standing outside too and the policeman closed the gate and told us that its already full , but then one of the organizers came and asked the policeman why they closed the gate and wont let the viewers come in, the police replied that the modeer or the manager told them to close it. who was the

f***ng modeer? an Indian guy who knows nothing pretending to know everything,an indian guy who was only the contact

of the genesis company for security but not to handle the

entry gates. The police and the indian guy who was pretending to know everything didnt know that people handling "90" tickets are for standing only(so they thought that the area is full and people are already standing). after long

arguments they finaly understood the categories of the tickets, me and my friends had finaly entered.

Gary V also had shared some of these faults, as he should be in the stadium rehearsing at 2 pm and sound checking and clearing the area after 2 hours and begin opening the entrance at 4pm according to their programs. But he explained before the show that he lost his passport on the plane. So people like us who should entered at the VIP seats at 4pm remained waiting for 3 hours because GARY V could not go out the airport without a passport, The US embassy came to the rescue and he got out at 6pm and began rehearsing and sound checking, while more and more people are coming and filling the perimeter. We cannot get in while there is an activity going on inside the venue according to the securities.

qatari police also took some of the people who were holding "tickets for 90" and let them entered and seated at the vip!, one of them is my officemate who took my seat so i was able to squat on the carpet.

MOST OF THIS ARE THE RESULTS OF PAPERS AND TRAVEL DOCUMENTS

-according to agelie his wife, a last minute travel also to OMAN made a big headache as he is not allowed to perform because he is not fit to work according to the Oman immigration.

but for all what happened GARY V just cured my anger and everything disappeared all the way as he begin to dance!..

still ... to the organizers thank you for bringing GARY V. Here in Qatar.

- just next time never hire another nationalities to take care of your shows. they will just ruined everything just to show up that they have positions and managers.!

Frankly I did not watch the concert. But with the few threads opened after the concert concerning complaints on how the higher priced ticket owners felt duped during this concert, I felt a civic duty to inform the Gary V's production company and the concert beneficiaries.

It was gracious of them to answer my simple email. Here is the reply of Ms. Gina-Maria Valenciano-Martinez:

Dear Mr. {I withhold my true name :)},

Thank you for sending us the information below. We will go through and study , and advise our Promoter in Qatar. It is always Gary's wish and prayer to reach out to as many Filipinos abroad. He prepares and works hard for these concerts. And yes, as we are not involved in the concert logistics, we still believe in giving the best to our audiences. Dahlia Sorantos: does she live in Doha or is she a traveling promoter? I would really, really like to get in touch with her, and I am willing to bring it all the way up the chain to get her banned from promoting concerts in Doha. I find it very hard to believe that she doesn't know what goes on behind the scenes. I mean, when you have 100 people outside with VIP tickets being refused entry...that is hard to ignore.

160 QR times 100 people = 16,000 QR ($4400) profit.

I think another problem here is that 99% of the ripped off people were Filipinos, and they have limited rights here. If this happened to 100 Qatari people, this promoter would end up in jail, but who would a Filipino go to to complain, and who would take it seriously?

Dahlia Sorantos is the promoter of that show according to the news. This is the meaning of Angelica's statement that there is something that stopping Garry V. for this concert. Garry V. is good and he dont want this things to happen. Posting your message here is a good way to fight back with her. Post this message also in other pinoy showbiz sites. Ill help you to post it with other sites. Just keep all the evidence with you. I wish that someone will see this message and help you to file a legal case aginst Dahlia.

I know what you mean, I was also at that Alladin COncert last year, and it was the same thing. I bought VIP tickets for that, too, and was told I would get chairs and a table, but when we got there, "VIP full" again, and we had to stand way in the back, couldn't see anything. So I hope you can understand my frustration at this "3rd world country" bullsh*t way of doing things. I come from a country where, when you buy a ticket with a seat number, you actually get to sit there. I don't blame the Qatari's, as I am sure their involvement is minimal.

I know Pizza Inn is one of the major sponsors of the show but I'm not sure if they could be held liable for it.

I'm sorry to know you had this bad experience. I too had been in your shoes...in another concert held at the Aladdin's kingdom. The parking area was all wet and muddy, and I too bought the VIP ticket. But on the concert proper, I don't have that VIP seat and I watched the concert from the way back...grrrr

After that...I never tried to attend any concert coz I feel like people will hoodwink me of my hard-earned money.
