the day before yesterday celebration at cornische was very pporly organised.the roads were jammed.my mom had to leave for india but due to immense traffic the flight missed.this is not with me but with other people too.
This person is quite successful...if i aint wrong...
This person has been involved in the success of Vancouver as well as another bid as well...
THere is no doubt that Qatar brings in the best to do the best...its just that this one slightly went out of the way...thats all...but truly speaking...Qatar will surely put the BEST in for the MAIN EVENT...if we do get it...i know bcos i have worked with this off first hand...
I think that for an event that has not been tried before in this country like bidding for the Olympic Games we should call in the experts. Mike Lee is experienced at this and a good leader. He did a great job for the London bid. I'm sure he will do us proud leading a team of locals and expats for the bid.
Well there you are actually someone to put the blame on - and you might think that I am joking, but I did wonder why no one blamed him already after having read the article in the Gulf Times. Time for this country to use it's own resources lol.
Actually I completely disagree Greeker. I work for an Events company and the event was incredibly poorly organized. It was most defintely not clearly advertised, unless you count annoying SMS"s telling you to go down. THere are ways to organize the traffic on the Corniche, there are ways to successfully organize the people. There are excellent events companies in this country, the Olympic committee just picked a bad one, which is quite obvious from that god awful brand they chosen for the Olympic bid. I'm sorry, but the Asian Games was great, why aren't they putting that much effort into the Olympic bid.

the "celebration at cornische was very porly organised"? Or your mom missed her flight to india?
There are two different issues.. i guess..
you suppose to be in the airport 3 hours prior to the flight. SO if you left home on time, 3,5 hours in advance, you would be fine even with the heaviest traffic on the roads.. 2,5 hours would be enough to get to the airport even from saudi arabia...
I felt that when i said it. People really need to be positive when they have chosen a country as their home (for whatever little time they are here). It really isnt done when people gripe no end. I think that if you are unsatisfied, then you become unproductive as well.
May be, home would be a happier place for such people. i have nothing against anybody, but seriously, if you think you are not fitting in here, then for your own sanity, you should leave. Else, for life, you would be sad that you took up the choice and did nothing to change fate when you still had the time.
Thats it. Enough with the philosophical part. I am done.
1. There is already a topic on the FRONT page. So you could comment there. Would keep the forums much more clean and uncluttered.
2. That there would be a rush at the Corniche was very clearly advertised from a very long time. People know that such a big event CANOT come without traffic restrictions and huge crowds in place. sorry to say, but if your mom missed the plane, then YOU are at fault. YOU should have left home early and YOU should have made contingency plans.
3. Its easy to say that an event was organised badly, but nobody thinks about the effort that went behind it. Yes, there were flaws, yes, they could have done it better. But in my opinion, they deserve applause for doing what they did.
Qatar, as big as the nail on my little thumb in the world map, pulled off something that other countries would give their right arm to accomplish. So instead of complaining, stand up and be proud that you were a part of it. A part of history that was made.
Sorry about your mom, though. Hope she got another flight out of Qatar.

Mike Lee is the advisor for the Olympic bid. He was responsible for helping London get the 2012 Games.
Let's hope for big things. London's bid was brilliant.

As always, you make me blush, hehe.

Greeker, sometimes you are just heroic :)
Please stay forever. Qatar needs more positive people like you.
